Solid state drives are the future, and thanks to economy of scale will be getting big enough and cheap enough in the next few years.

The only thing holding us back is really high-speed internet bandwidth in countries that are lagging behind thanks either to geography (U.S.) or asshole ISPs throwing money at government (U.S.).

I can't see another disc format, no matter how massive, being used beyond a few niches (photo and video pros are a very niche-y niche in the grand scheme of things).
