Spyware

I only got my laptop in September, and it's already super slow. I figured it's spyware, because I check for viruses and stuff regularly - does anyone know of a good free programme that I could download to get rid of it? I've tried a few and they require you to register to actually remove any of the spyware

Any help would be much appreciated

I use Symantec Antivirus Corporate, which does both viruses and spyware, but I used to use Adaware and Spybot for spyware. Install them and run the scans in Safe Mode. Webroot Spysweeper is good, but the realtime protection would slow the comp down more than the spyware, and I don't know if it's free. Adaware and Spybot are free. Be careful of anything else; all the other programs just install MORE spyware and crap on your computer.

I got adaware awhile back thanks to recommendations from the lovely inhabitants of blue crack and it seems to be doing a fine job.
