this message icon was supposed to be a :crack: but it's not added...

Nero won't work on my pc anymore since the disc I have only works with the cd drive it came with :)huh: weird stuff) and when I tried to burn trough Windows it said no disc...
I downloaded a program(Ashampoo, first hit on google) to try and copy this 1,3 gig file... and once again.. no disc...

I tried two different, brand new, Dvd-RW discs, with both the program said no disc... I've two dvd drives in my pc, one is a DVD ram(dunno what it is actually) and one a dvd multi recorder...

 what is going wrong???

I am not a techie, per se, but it sounds like it is not
recognizing your disc.

What do you mean that your Nero disc won't work
anymore because it only works w/ the drive it came with?
That shouldn't be the case. It should be readable in any
CD or DVD drive that can "read" unless the disc itself is
somehow damaged.

As for your drives, the DVD RAM drive is one of three
different types of DVD storage. It is generally
considered to be better quality then DVD+RW
and DVD-RW (at least that is what I understand).
If you are putting your DVD-RW into your DVD RAM
drive, that is why the programs keep saying "no disc."
DVD RAM burners only take/burn DVD-RAM discs.

Try the DVD multi if you can, and make sure to
specify that drive for the burning.

PM me if you need more help.

well, my nero disc(it's very old) says (on the cd itself) The software will only work with the cd recorder it came bundled with..
and it doesn't work.. I can only burn to image recorders instead of to cds/dvds.. can't access the options to change it!

the first dvd drive says DVD rom, I mistyped that...

I tried to specify the drives, but it wouldn't let me! What program could I best use for it?

yea I only have dvd+RW discs..

Ahh! DVD-ROM is a read-only drive. So, any thing you use
should default to the other drive (you computer should
recognize that it is a read only drive).

That is too bad about your Nero disc.

Try this for me please:
Go to the Nero site and download the free trial of Nero 8.
After installing the trial/demo, try to use it and see if it
will work (recognize the proper drive).

Let me know what happens.

I tried, instrallation success.. changed the burn type to dvd, hit burn.... and it's waiting for a disc now, while I already put one in  I switched it with another one from the pile.... still telling me to put a disc in it...

Hmm
This is going to sound weird, but do not start out with a
disc in the drive. Wait until the program prompts you to
insert a disc. I had problems with a drive once that
would not recognize when I wanted to burn until the
program I was using (and it could be any program) asked
for the disc.

Try that and let me know what happens. If that does
not work, we made need to start talking about the
drivers that belong to each specific drive.

:crack: I tried it... nothing... still doesn't recognize it.... man I never thought it would be this hard!

:scream: It shouldn't be that hard!

Did you install/have someone else install your drives in
an existing computer or did you buy the computer
with these drives as standard options?

I ask this because I am beginning to worry that the
drivers controlling the drives are not working or
weren't installed right.

:crack: the friggin' pc is only a year old, we just bought it like this, didn't change anything!

I tried burning something on cd a long time back, and I can remember I had similiar problems  but I was trying to burn a cd back then... I can't really remember it tho...

Ok, I assume this is a PC, correct?

:hmm: This is a bit boggling. Okay. . .
I am going to go round about describing this, but that is
because I want to make sure we are on the same page.
This is going to require you to sacrifice one DVD
(if it works). I hate to keep asking you to try things,
but it is helping me to figure things out since I cannot
physically see your computer.

Try this please:

1) Goto my computer

2) Goto your documents folder

3) Select something from your documents -
This should NOT be a music file as Nero usually
overrides everything when it is a music doc/file. Your
selection can be anything else; I suggest trying
a paper (if you are a student) or a selection of
images (perhaps of our fave musicians ).

4) Right click on your selection

5) Scroll down to "send to"

6) Select the drive that is your burning drive (mine
is E:, but your's is probably different)

7) An action balloon should pop up in your status bar
saying that "You have files waiting to be written to
the CD/DVD."

8) Click on the balloon, and a window will open - it
should show you what file(s) you have selected and
the drive they are going to

9) Insert blank DVD into selected drive

10) Click "Write these files to CD/DVD"
on the upper left hand side of the
window under the heading CD
Writing Tasks

Let me know what happens. *crosses fingers that
this works*

I've tried that, also asked for a disc :crack:

I give up, I'll remove some stuff from my ipod to backup the program I wanted to save on dvd.. :sigh:

thanks for trying to help me :)

:banghead:

I am sorry that it isn't working. Maybe
look at your system reboot discs and see if you can locate the drivers
for your DVD drives. They may need to be reinstalled.

Sorry I couldn't be of more help. :(
