seeding torrents

whenever I download a torrent file I always leave it open awhile after because I've read that's what you're supposed to do, to give some back and everything. but no matter how long I leave it open, nothing ever uploads so I have a terrible ratio which might be a problem at some point maybe, I dunno. I'm just sort of wondering if I'm doing something wrong, and if there's something I could do to make sure I upload some of the stuff that I've download. I've tried reading torrent FAQs but it makes no sense to me

Try to fix your settings...There may be a limit to your uploads...
Or there may be issues with your firewall...

I used to have that problem... if you use utorrent, you could go to Option>preferences>network and where it says "global maximum upload rate" you could put a higher number, maybe that'll help?

thanks for replies guys- i haven't downloaded any torrents lately so haven't really messed around with it.
