Putting mp3s into itunes

I downloaded an mp3, and now to enforce the bad karma I've loaded onto myself, the fucker's just sitting there on my desktop. I've done the "import" thing, but no deal. It doesn't play and it won't import into my iTunes. My iTunes is version 7 (?) and I have a tasty new iMac, so don't tell me to right click anything please.

Isn't Import just for your Contacts and stuff?
It's always been "Add File to Library..." for me.

But if you move that from your desktop, you'll lose it in iTunes. So put it in your music folder first.

I put it in my music folder, and tried to add it to my library, but it still won't play. I wonder if it's an empty file?

I don't know anything about iTunes, but all my files are mp3s and I just drag them into the various playlists I've created. I think when I drag them in, it quick copies them or creates a path to them or something.

I always just drag my songs into my library.

Does the file name end in mp3 or .mp4? If not, it might not recognize it.
