It can affect it - you should be able to see the wifi connection speed on the Windows system tray if you see a wifi icon there - hover the mouse over it. At home, I can get 54Mbps, but that can fall drastically if I use a public hotspot.

This is... residence/work, since I live at work. I consider this moderately speedy, actually.
At real home the average download speed is 1.8kb/s... I think I'll see what it says when I get there on Friday.

I'm using a laptop at home though, on the upstairs floor. Hovering over the wireless icon gives me a read of 18mbs (but at 24 when I started the test) with a low signal. Doesn't help that I share the Internet with my sibling either.

Wireless is always slower. Maybe "technically" it should't be, but it is.

Look at mine on LAN:
