Noise-Cancelling Headphone Recommendations?

I'm looking for a nice pair of noise-cancelling headphones. Preferably $50 or so (i.e., not the wonderful Bose ones), as I'm adding these to my Christmas list and don't want anyone to think about forking over a fortune on me.

Any suggestions?

Don't get Coby from Circuit City - they broke on my way back from Europe recently and I returned them. CNET might have reviews - I also want a new pair.

Over-the-ear is better - I was thinking of JVC .
Something like this - http://www.jr.com/JRProductPage.process?Product=3978446

But I'll read reviews first.

I've heard good things about the Etymotic ER-6 Isolator as well.

^I've read the reviews on that pair & they look pretty good. The main negative review about it I've seen is that there is occasionally a hiss in quiet settings. But on the most part, reviews for that have been fairly good. (I'm using Amazon for reviews--there are over 100 for that pair).

My brother-in-law, a huge music geek, has recommended the Shure E2C. They're noise "isolators" as opposed to "cancelling" headphones, but he loves them. He's an enormous music geek & has been through dozens of headphones in the past. I'm looking into them, but I think they still might be a little too expensive for me...

Those look promising - I'll have to read up on how well they work on airplanes (for reducing/isolating noise).
