Need help with splitting tracks from audio

I ripped some audio from a couple of dvds using VLC player and I need some suggestions on what software I can use. I'm looking for something that is free and easy to use.

OS is Windows 8

Thanks, but I've downloaded that and it doesn't appear to be noob friendly.

Just load in the track, go to the point where you want to split it, be sure to hit the stop button so you're not actually playing the track, copy the part you want out, paste it in a different track, done. It's really, really an easy program.

if i don't want to use audacity, i also use quicktime for audio splitting. not gonna lie, it is a bit easier for me to use only because it can be tougher for my eyes to highlight the precise parts in audacity. (but i do generally use audacity for all audio editing)
