msn messnger with apple

I well be getting an apple computer for the first time. But I was woundering if I well still be able to use the messanger with my apple computer? Does anyone know? Thanks in advance.

I have Microsoft Messenger on my Mac. My niece uses it constantly with her Mac laptop. I don't know if it's the same thing as msn messenger, though.
