I got an Lenox brand mp3 player,it cost $80 if that helps, those are very cool ones...
you can change the sound setting on it and different stuff, look around and see if you can`t find one of thoes.

btw,it depends on where you are...

I'm also thinking about getting a new mp3 player cos mine died too
I've got my eye on a Creative Zen V Plus (either 2, 4 or 8 GB)... does anyone have this type and tell me if it's worth it...

http://www.anythingbutipod.com/ is a good site for reviews.
I have the Sandisk sansa - cheaper than ipod and the battery is replaceable.

My iPod died on my and my "solution" of hitting it very hard did even more damage; to be fair though I got 4 years of solid use out of it. I bought a Creative Zen Vision M, having to switch to media player was a bit of a pain but it has pictures, video, voice recorder and radio as standard and the battery life is great. My only concern thus far has been updating the firmware and what to do for replacement batteries, since they are probably pretty niche compared to iPod ones.
