I use my iPod as a hard drive. I'm having major problems creating and updating playlists when using it in this format.

Its like I only have access to the songs I put on that specific computer.

Does that make sense?

Any solutions?

Its annoying.

Yeah, basically I have two computers: one at work and one at home.

I have approximately 5000 songs on my ipod. My ipod is in manual mode meaning it does not update automatically.

I just started using it on manual mode when i got my new 60gb ipod a couple of weeks ago.

I had playlists already in itunes. Now that I am in manual mode, I cannot make changes to those playlists other then just sorting them differently (i.e. alphabetically). I cannot manually change the order of the songs and I cannot add songs and/or delete them.

I also cannot make new playlists.

Basically my question is this:

If my ipod is plugged into the computer, is it possible to make playlists from the SONGS ON THE IPOD as opposed to just the songs on that version of itunes.
Or, do the songs actually have to be housed on the in-use computer in order to make a playlist using them?
