Instagram Question

I have searched everywhere, but cannot seem to find verification that this is not possible - is there any way to send a direct message on Instagram that is only text, without sending a photo or video with it?

Also, if you sent a direct message to someone who is not following you, it is put in a queue and the person needs to accept it before they can see it, correct?

I recently sent a text message through Instagram to someone I follow but who doesn't follow me. And they replied back within 5 min
