I have an HP Pavilion Laptop, and my speakers won't work unless I have my earphones plugged in. As soon as I take them out, there's no sound. Does anyone have an idea as to what might be wrong? Thanks in advance!

When your earphones are plugged in, is there sound in the earphones AND out of the speakers? Are they plugged into the front, or the side/back? Is there more than one place to plug them in? Does the laptop have a mute button?

When they're plugged in, the sound only comes through the earphones. The speakers aren't working at all it seems. The earphones are plugged into the front. There's 2 holes for them there, plus one for a microphone. Yes, it does have a mute button which is not on. And IDK, if it helps but the make of the laptop is, I believe, the HP Pavilion dv 1000.
