How do I password protect my wireless network?

It won't matter what platform you're running since you need to make the change on the router.

Plug your computer into your router.

Open a browser and enter the IP address of the router (given in the manual or on the router, or you can Google for it).

Enter the username and password you setup, or the default one that comes on the router.

Find the "wireless" settings/configuration.

Change it to use a "key" (the password). Some will let you enter in any old password, others have you enter a word and then the router generates a key for you to use.

You can also turn off broadcasting your SSID if you want. That means someone has to know the name of your network to connect (ie, it won't show up as an available wireless connection).
 
Linksys routers, for example, use 192.168.1.1 for their internal IP address. D-Link and Netgear routers typically use 192.168.0.1. Some US Robotics routers use 192.168.123.254, and some SMC routers use 192.168.2.1. No matter the brand of router, its default internal IP address should be provided in documentation.
