Help with making DVD that plays on regular players

I may have asked this before, but I have some Avi (they may be Mpeg 4, it doesnt say, it just says it opens with winamp) and I want to make a dvd that'll play on a regular DVD player.

Does anyone know of any free progammes that'll let me do this?

There should be some fully working free trials (that last 30 days or so). Try TMPGEnc.
