Help needed with changing desktop background

I've been trying to change the background on my desktop for several days now, and I'm having no luck.

When I go into the display properties, it won't let me pick a different theme/picture from the list. I can't even select "Browse" to choose another picture from another file. I can change the colour, but that's about it.

Do any of you have any ideas of what I can do to get this working properly again? I don't know what happened to change this, but I used to be able to change my desktop background all the time.

What happens if you find the picture you like, open it, right click on it, and select Set as Desktop Background?

CAUSE
This problem occurs when a registry key is set to hide or to lock the display settings on the computer. The registry key can be set by an administration policy or by malicious software.

Do you have an anti-spyware or anti-virus program on your comp?

Lies - I've tried that, and nothing happens. It doesn't show up.

neutral - I think I have Norton, but it's probably outdated or something.

I'm stumped as to what's causing this, and am soo-ooo bored with the plain background.

Try downloading StyleXP. Should overcome the probelm, and give you a whole load more option to spruce up your desktop as well!
