The speed issue with Thunderbolt is only with the cables, right? The ports will handle either copper/metal or fiber.
So, it should just be a matter of getting fiber optic cables for maximum speed, yes?

I'm not sure what it is that's holding them back from releasing optical cables, I just know that at launch TB will be copper-wired, but has the potential to be fiber-optic down the line.

Cool.

In the meantime, I'll keep an eye on:

HDMI Cable, Home Theater Accessories, HDMI Products, Cables, Adapters, Video/Audio Switch, Networking, USB, Firewire, Printer Toner, and more!

and

Great sources for cables.

You basically get on the Apple bus or you don't.

The proprietary Apple Display cord thingie, Firewire/Thunderbolt, having to have an iPod to USB cable handy if you want to sync, etc.

I love Apple products and have bought iPod after iPod after iPod Touch, but they love their own ecosystem, and you either love it or hate it.

I keep chugging their Kool-Aid (and offering it to thirsty friends).

Is it me or does anyone else find a white enclosure / bezel really distracting on any kind of mobile device with back-lit screen?

Just looking at the white iPad 2 I can tell I would never want to watch more than a few minutes of video or read more than a few pages on it.

Ya, I completely agree. The white just keeps drawing your eye to the edge of the screen

the best thing apple did with the ipad is to convince the buying public that they need an item that they don't need.

I have an iPad, but I'm fully aware that I don't need it. Much like I dont need my PS3, a smart phone, more than one guitar, etc. But you know what? I use the shit out of all those things, so it doesn't matter if they're needs or wants. They're still fun to have. I know what you're saying, as I used to think the same thing, but then I realized it's not the point. It's a cool little gadget that I've integrated into everyday use

The industry-specific applications of the iPad and other tablets are fascinating, actually.

And this. There are some awesome ones for what I do. I can't wait to see what else they come up with

From what I understand, one of the biggest commercial uses of iPads is for restaurant and wine menus.

Yeah, progress.
