I'm assuming my Comcast email account was hacked. About a week ago, I opened up Outlook and got about 10 new messages, all "delivery status notifications," telling me my message was still trying to be delivered.

I couldn't see what that message might have been, but it's nothing I had sent and to no email addresses I've ever seen.

Since then, I've gotten about 10 of those a day, and starting yesterday, I had about 50 of them at once.

Have I been hacked? Is there anything I need to do, or do I just need to wait it out and eventually those suckers will stop coming?

I've had friends' accounts send me those random junk emails from time to time, so I know it can happen, but I haven't had anyone in my actual address book let me know they got junk mail from me.

It may be more likely that someone else got a virus or worm. Say for example that I have an address book and you're in it, then my computer is infected and wormy-worm grabs all the contacts in my address book and "spoofs" them, sending out e-mails as if I or these people sent them.

I've gotten scam/spam from myself on more than on occasion, lol. It is relatively easy to make spammy e-mails and put whoever you want as the "sender".

As long as you weren't going to any questionable links or opening attachments you're probably fine. Run your security software and MalwareBytes in Safe Mode if you want to be sure.

Now, we did have a nasty outbreak on campus and the vulnerability was comcast.net. We actually blocked that site for a while because so many people were getting stuff from checking their comcast e-mail using their web interface. But as far as I know these viruses were not the kind that send out junk e-mails.

Thanks, lies! I have that NOD32 whatchamacallit. I'll run that tonight, and otherwise just wait it out.

this happened to me... i started sending out advertisements for viagra to everyone on my contact list.

solution was to change my password and delete my contacts... relatively pain free as any contact i needed was also on attached to my blackberry contact list... but yea, that's the way to go if the problem continues.

regardless i'd change your password right away just to be safe.

I ran a scan and it quarantined two suspect things, and after that, I stopped getting the bouncebacks.

I did get one email that looked like a reply .... with a subject in what I'll make an assumption was Chinese. So my computer maybe sent out Chinese emails. Awesome!

I was assuming that the reply was yelling at me for spamming, but maybe it was just more spam in return. It weirded me out.
