Downloaded fonts not working on Vista?

I just tried installing all of my downloaded fonts, from my old pc (XP)
to my laptop, wich runs on Vista (<--curse this) All of them are Truetype fonts , wich should be working , but someway in unpakking them out their zipfiles, my laptop gives an error message and quits becuase its not compattible.

I tried downloading fonts from Dafont etc. Witch all don't work either.

Give me some spoonfeeding becuase I can't figure it out.

For me, I usually just drag the .ttf files to the Fonts folder under Control Panel. Could you do that? Now reading that you can't unzip the files... could it be that those files are corrupted somehow? Could you unzip them in your XP pc? If so, why don't you just move the .ttf files to your Vista laptop? Maybe that'll work.
