Creating GIFs

Does anyone know a good application where I can create GIFs that would be suitable for my Mac?

I used to do gifs in phothoshop a while ago for some of my classes it was very easy

Yeah I use ImageReady sometimes (comes with Photoshop). I've never used these myself but they're both for Mac and free.

Okay now my second question is...How do you make a GIF out of a video?

You probably have to make stills from the video first.

You can take stills with Cyberlink Power DVD (the free trial is for 30 days, I think) and hold down C to get frame by frame captures. (Then you have to go through it frame by frame to delete duplicates.)

You can also try using VirtualDub to automatically do it for you. It doesn't work for many formats though.

VD isn't working and CPD isn't compatible from macs

What do you usually play your videos with?

You can just pause the video and take screen captures, OSX will grab whatever is playing on the screen. Hitting shift-command-4 will allow you to select just the video player area and then it will save the files on the desktop.

Oh yeah, and if you have Quicktime Pro you can go to File/Export, save as movie to image sequence, and it does a frame-by-frame still export.
