aol updates

I recently got the following popup:

IMPORTANT: AOL Security Update ( 4482.14.4) fixes a critical security vulnerability of the AOL(R) software. We recommend that you install this update as soon as you are notified of it.

The AOL Software Update mechanism eliminates the need for you to manually download software updates (patches). Whenever there is a need to update the AOL software, the patch is downloaded in the background, thereby minimizing the impact of the download on your online experience. Once the download is complete, you will be prompted to install the software update. Click Install Now to begin the installation of the update.

I have Trend and I have Spysweeper. I'm sure the update is legit. I just don't know whether I need to install it or not to protect myself. I've occasionally noticed when I have installed an aol security update, there is a conflict with my security system and it causes all sorts of headaches.

So, if anybody has any advice?
