I'm a fan of Colin Farrell as well as David Morse, but last season fumbled at the goal line, and as Lance mentioned they lost a really strong director.

I'll be skipping this unless people start recommending it strongly.

Aww, c'mon, Lazzy, you gotta hatewatch something. Fumbled at the goal line? Good one! Well, you know what they say about opinions and shit.

All we are saying is give Vince a chance! All we're sayin'! All we are saying is give Colin a chance! All we're sayin'! All we are saying is give Rachel a chance! All we're sayin'! All we are saying is give Taylor a chance! Well, wait a minute. Fuck him! He did look pretty dopey riding his motorcycle with no lights on and shit. And the Viagra. Well, war is Hell.

Kind of a meh premiere, somehow managing to be both unnecessarily oblique and on the nose. Season 1 got off to a far more economical, intriguing start.

That being said, the 3 detectives have all met over the case now and the middling reviews were only based on the first 3 eps. I'll give it the benefit of the doubt.

Got a James Ellroy vibe off much of the episode, so I'm wondering who's going to croak by episode 6? Colin or Taylor, if I had to guess based on tropes.

...with your mother's headless corpse.

Yes, that second half of the threat is very important. Otherwise, the kid would be like, "yeah, whatever".

Can't wait to meet his son's mother.

Hopefully, by the next episode, we'll see Colin's character shooting up heroin or smoking crack. So far, it's booze, pot and coke. Almost sounds like something they'd chant during the Wizard of Oz. Booze, pot and coke! Oh my! Booze, pot and coke! Oh my!

First episode clearly just to set up the characters before throwing them together on the case. Definitely not as good an opening episode as season 1, which drew you in right away, but by the end it built up some potential.

The motorcycle scene made me think of:

.

Because he's not the father.

Of course the photo of the guy Vaughn showed him (who presumably Farrell killed) was a skinny dark haired guy, so I have a feeling we'll find out that Vaughn gave him the wrong guy (just some low life junkie) intentionally so he could have Farrell indebted to him. (Wouldn't be surprised to find out Vaughn set the whole thing up in fact)

I enjoyed it too, no idea about the CHP guy. I assumed it was Viagra too but didn't think about the gay angle. Could be why he always bales on her and doesn't like the commitment. He also likes to drive very fast with no headlights, maybe that's a gay thing too ;)

They all seemed to be flawed human beings that can be compromised. I'm guessing that's his deal. Good writing, not to give it away and or keep us guessing.

It totally is.

In fact, I'm driving very fast with no headlights as I type this.

It only counts if your doing triple digits on a motorcycle late at night near the edge of a cliff, and of course you probably still have wood from the little blue pill when you tried to fake it with the lady.

I didn't think about the gay angle for the CHP. I just thought that possibly his injuries (be it mental and/or physical) might have played a part in his difficulty to achieve an erection. Plus, not all vets have an easy time sustaining relationships after they have returned from war.

Wasn't the pool of blood from the guy who had his nuts blown off and his eyes melted?

Whatever though, i was just kind of starting to like that character. Maybe he had a bullet proof vest underneath his jacket. Otherwise it ain't looking good for him.

lol no he's dead. as much as Farrell is my favorite actor on this show right now by a huge margin, his character was clearly the least interesting and had the least potential so it makes sense.
