Yeah that was a shotgun blast so he is toast

SPOILER for the following episodes...

He survives. There are set photos of him in scenes that are obviously not flashbacks. There is even a picture of him in bandages.

Yeah honestly this was cheesy (and frankly mediocre) enough but he survives not one but two shotgun blasts (final one point blank)? Cmon.

If the guy was wearing body armor underneath his clothes its possible he survives with some broken bones and had the wind knocked out of him.

Hard to imagine the lead actor dies at the end of episode 2, but it was still a pretty surprising twist. Chris Robinson with a shotgun is definitely a creepy looking dude..

I get that, but we're talking about a killer (apparently) who burned out his previous victim's eyes and then castrated him via shotgun (blew a gaping hole in his groin is probably a better way of putting it). And we're saying that out of 2 shots, the second of which was ostensibly the kill shot, he aimed both for the center body mass? Where, conveniently, his intended victim was amply protected by a vest? I mean. I know this is fiction and all but this isn't some banger with a sawed off. It's a calculating killer wearing a bird mask. Big difference imo.

I get - and agree - that the main character can't be dying on us already. But hell man they could at least make the thing a bit more plausible.

They could be trying to send someone a message by not killing him, messing him up pretty bad instead. He did ask his superior if they really wanted him to solve the case afterall. It wouldn't make much sense for him to go into the guys house without a bullet proof vest honestly. I don't know just grasping for straws here i guess.

There is some super clunky dialogue in these episodes that really takes me out of the show. In the second episode, the whole e-cigarette conversation in the car, and in this last episode, the whole "apoplectic" scene in the bar. This dialogue just feels so written and not of the characters speaking it. It made sense in season 1 when McConaughey's character spoke like that because it was perfectly in line with who his character was. (And, conversely, they didn't have Harrelson's character speak like that.)

I feel like they think (with the dialogue) because they did it a certain way in the first season, they think they have to make this second season the same, even if it's forced. Which ultimately, for me, makes it feel fake.

Other than that, I am enjoying the second season so far. Farrell and McAdams are my favorite characters. I don't like Vaughn and I think he's out of his depths on this show.

Nothing about the first three episodes has interested me beyond how hilariously awful some of the dialogue is.
