Good points re: the Motionless picture. The last time I re-watched it, I did think to myself that some of the scenes were 2001-esque, but without he majesty or realism, even.

I think Shatner is great in Khan and pretty damned good in IV and VI.
The bug-eyed look he gives combined with the music cue kills me every time.

Certainly. The production design and costume work date it more than any other Star Trek film since. The digital effects added in the restoration were quite nice... didn't add too much to the experience. I've always really enjoyed the ending between Decker and Ilia, even if Decker's a total ninny.

The SHAT! turns in some solid work in III as well, jostling between sly (anything involving them stealing the Enterprise) and hammy (kicking Christopher Lloyd into a volcano).

I'm a huge dork so my words have to be taken with a grain of salt as it pertains to II but it's hard to find a better action film than that.....life/death/aging, action, revenge, regret, family, friendship all explored to some extent, as well as those great lines that we sort of laugh at now but are still pretty cool when viewed in context. Not to mention Kirk ordering Reliant to lower her fucking shields.
The film just had so many things go right: A good cast of seasoned veteran actors combined with some young talent; a surprisingly awesome score, peak performances from the original series cast (and Montalban of course), more focus on storytelling than gaudy effects, etc.

I'm not sure which look is better....the one you mention, or, his look when Kirk taunts him as The Enterprise enters the nebula.

I was at a comic con last year, and I had to vigorously convince a friend of mine not to go up to Walter Koenig and say, "You didn't expect to find me here . . . You thought this was . . . Ceti Alpha VI . . . ahhh."

My own inclination was of course to ask him if he knew where the naval base in Alamdeda was. Walter really looked out of it though - worn out or something. We pestered Spiner instead, who's probably more tolerant of that kind of crap anyway.

Walter has to do conventions for Star Trek AND Babylon 5, probably takes a lot out of him. Dork overload, etc.

I lived in Alameda for most of 2010, so, there's that. I drove by the base constantly and laughed every time.

If I saw Spiner I'd tell him how awesome he was in The Aviator cos that's how I do.

I've never been to a convention, though, outside of baseball card conventions as a kid.

Spiner was a fun guest to meet. I talked to him for a few minutes. He read me the viagra ads he got on his blackberry. Other than that, it seems like he spent much of the day dancing on the table or sabotaging John De Lancie's autograph table.

Wizard World hold a monthly comic con. I never went to one before last August. Patrick Stewart cancelled, but they still had Shatner, Spiner, Koenig, Avery Brooks, De Lancie, and several TOS/TNG guest stars.

Someday I'll learn how to make actual video gifs.

I saw Koenig once at a convention, too. Tired is a pretty apt description.

Oscar Goldman was more alert if I remember correctly.

Shatner spoke at the event. He talked for about 30 minutes. I have no idea what about, and neither did he.

Star Trek theme park planned in Amman, Jordan

The Red Sea Astrarium in Amman, Jordan will ‘prominently feature’ an attraction inspired by the 2009 reboot of Star Trek. The Star Trek-themed centre will 'deliver a variety of multi-sensory 23rd-century experiences, culminating with a state-of-the art space-flight adventure.'

The Rubicon Group will lead the design and development of the 184-acre resort, with the Star Trek being ‘creatively developed’ by Paramount Recreation. The Rubicon Group, Paramount Recreation and CBS will all collaborate on the $1 billion project.
