lol, it is a classic, imho.... I always thought Sixteen Candles was overrated, but lots of people know of it and really dig it, and not, for instance, The Sure Thing.

I don't know if it's overrated, but it has definitely been championed as one of the definitive Gen X movies. Crowe directed it and Cusack was viewed as a young actor on the rise with legit acting chops. Plus, of course, that song coming out of our hero's boom box. After 27 years (shit, that's nuts in and of itself) that song is still in heavy rotation on many a radio station. (Radio, remember that?)

I actually really enjoyed John Mahoney's performance as the dad who would do anything to ensure his daughter's future.

The John Cusack thread

Let's have fun and re-imagine every movie with John Cusack in the lead male role.

- Godfather Part II. Big no

- Robin Hood Prince of Thieves. Yes

- Shawshank. Possible but don't mess with perfection

- I Am Sam. Yes

No movie featuring the comedy stylings of Long Duk Dong could possibly be overrated.

Plus it launched Ione Skye into super stardom, she's had a long storied career of Hollywood blockbusters since.

You just defined why it's overrated. It's very good, but it gets held up as definitive and I'm like ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

The John Cusack thread

I was shocked by how much I enjoyed Say Anything considering it's received so much "OVERRATED" backlash over the years and it isn't part of a genre I particularly relish. Actually made me tear up. I'd happily take that one over any John Hughes sans Breakfast Club.

Who cares? She married a Beastie Boy. She'll always have that.

PS: She was hot as Diane Court. Especially in that white dress.

Ugh. An unnecessary apostrophe.

Back to Cusack. I liked him in City Hall.

Strange casting for him as Richard Nixon in "Lee Daniel's: The Butler".
