Bad shit goes down from there.

I totally loved it.

I agree

she has a wide body of work, a lot of it is not very good.

I have yet to see Blind Side but if she does good work in it,
I would much rather see her win than Streep.

7 might have been better.
I wish it was treated more like a minimum of 5, max of 10 nominees, but widening the field means that more people will see something like District 9, An Education, or A Serious Man than may have been aware of it, or give them incentive to see it.

I'm still not a fan of the 10 nominees, and hope they go back to 5 sooner rather than later.

But this whole experiment was worth it just so history will show:

A Serious Man, Best Picture nominee

Thank the maker!

A real shame about the lack of attention for Bright Star, but at least it got something.

I don't like the 10 nominees either. Way too many too choose from.

How in the hell did Underdog, Racially-tinged Sports Drama #283 get a Best Picture nomination? Hopefully A Serious Man takes that one down. If Bullock wins Best Actress, my head is going to explode.

And again, the presence of [Papyrus]AVATAR[/Papyrus] is a joke.

Well, it was either that or the other UR-TSD that was going to get in, and I'd rather see Clint Eastwood get snubbed.

Of course, my head will explode as well. It's like like the beginning of the last decade, where a popular actress won for work that wasn't very impressive considering the rest of the contending performances that year.

Julia Roberts for Erin Brockovich

Well the most shocking news of all is the Big Hurt penning the lyrics to an Oscar nominated song.

the move to 10 nominees is a reaction to the "snub" of The Dark Knight from last year -- the hopes that a colossal moneymaker being in contention for an award will make many more tune in for the broadcast so they can cheer and keep score, i.e. Return of the King and Titanic.

that said, Avatar would have been nominated had there been just 5 pictures, and Avatar > TDK.

anyway, the acting categories are pretty boring because it's pretty much known who's going to win. Bridges, Monique, and Waltz. i have a soft spot in my heart for Firth, and he has one scene in "Single Man" that's transcendent and heartbreaking, but everyone seems to want to abide by The Dude this year. which is fine, i guess.

Streep vs. Bullock is interesting, but that's about it.

it's less about the performances and more about the horse race. just like politics.

and, for me, Bigelow > Cameron.

I agree with everything you said

I am glad Firth got in over The Serious Man

and I think it is proper that The Serious Man got the noms it did get.

Freeman and Damon may be my least favorite noms.
Invictis should have been an after school special

If I had to pick one sure win, he would be it.

Next would be Bridges.
