Hold the phone. An unattractive person went on one of these types of shows and surprised people by singing well? NO WAY!

Honestly, you'd think people would realize that looks have nothing to do with singing talent.

You know, when I started reading your comment, I only kind of half saw the picture and thought for a moment, just a moment, that you were talking about someone else:

Yorke totally aped Clay Aiken's vocal style on Fake Plastic Trees.

I think Thom's had his ups and downs. I think he looked like an idiot for everything for the first two albums and Hail to the Thief. I dug his In Rainbows style.

More accurately, I think he looks ridiculous without a beard. That probably sums it up best.

I was actually just teeing you up for a "because you look like him" barb.

If you understood my exhaustion at this time, you'd understand why I missed that. I feel like an idiot now, almost as much as you must feel when you walk out in public.

This morning when I went to the office I couldn't figure out why I was hearing a beautiful version of one of my favorite songs from Les Miz. Then I realized it was coming from the speakers of the computer on the desk of one of my co-workers, who was playing the YouTube video.

On one hand I think this is the most awesome thing in the history of awesome. On the other hand, I think it's incredibly sad that the reason I'm so moved by it is because it is so rare for someone who is physically unattractive to be celebrated in pop culture rather than being made the butt of a joke.

I saw this video on Perez Hilton the other day and I have to admit I started to cring when she said she was going to sing. lol

I was so shocked when I heard her voice though. Simply beautiful. Her voice definitely wiped the looks off those peoples faces.

The reason I love this video is because she made us realize how shallow our culture can be in assigning so much weight to things like appearance. People scoffed at Susan the moment she walked on stage and she simply proved the doubters wrong.

I really think this is going to be one of the most watched youtube videos of all time. My parents called me to tell me about it. That has never happened before. And if she ever comes out with a CD, I will definitely buy it just to show support for this lady who had her dream come true because she took a risk

^VERY well said I don't watch Idol because I've never enjoyed Simon's crass picking on people. He's mean. I've often wondered what qualifies him to be a "judge of talent" and how can he sleep some nights after some of the hurtful things he says to people. When I came across this video (on Twitter) I was speechless. I started out angry at the audience snickered including the same attitude from the judges. The poor lady had no clue. Then from the moment she opened her mouth and that first note burst forth I was mesmerized and the tears started to fall! She is amazing with a God given talent! I hope that she will enjoy some fame sharing her voice with the world and damn each and every person who ever snickered or poked fun at her! People in our culture are much too shallow and it really is sad.

Well done Susan!
