Stay Classy Mel Gibson

keep in mind, she knew she was taping, and most likely knew how to push his buttons to get him to that point, not that it is excusable.

does the tape begin with the phone ringing and her answering it,
or could there have been a longer conversation before where she said inflammatory things to ratchet it up, to get him to that point?
again, not that his behavior is excusable

there was a time when I could have been antagonize to a point, that I might say things I would regret,

anymore, I just put the breaks on and walk away.

Given that it's not excusable-do you think he actually needs inflammatory things or any sort of provocation? I don't think so, not by a long shot. He'd probably go off on a violent rant if he didn't like the way she said hello. He's a classic abusive individual. I don't even want to listen to the rest of his crap, it's too depressing.

Polanski fucked a 13 year old, plain and simple. Whether or not she wants to make a thing of it now is irrelevant, it was/is wrong and illegal, end of story. Whether or not fans can find a way to justify that and still enjoy his work is up to them, I guess. I can't. Woody Allen is more of a grey area to me - she was of age (right? Correct me if I'm wrong) and they're still married now, so there must have been something genuine there. As for Mel, I hope his career is over. Time will tell, but I can't imagine many flocking to worship him or his work.

one difference i'd say is that Polanski hasn't continued to rape 13 year old girls, at least to my knowledge.

Gibson, however, has been an awful person for years and years, and i'd imagine the spousal abuse was present in his first marriage (but i guess we don't really know that).

i'll also share these lovely Gibson quotes about the gayz:

"They take it up the ass. [laughs, stands up, bends over, points to anus] This is only for taking a shit." —to Spanish newspaper El Pais when asked what he thinks of gays, in 1991.

"With this look, who's going to think I'm gay? I don't lend myself to that type of confusion. Do I look like a homosexual? Do I talk like them? Do I move like them?" —from the El Pais interview.

"I'll apologize when hell freezes over. They can fuck off." —to Playboy in 1995, about whether he'd issue an apology to gays and lesbians, as GLAAD recommended.

In Case You Were Wondering, Mel Gibson Hates Gays Too - Towleroad, More than gay news. More gay men

he's pretty much always been a Nazi, talented or not.

it's kind of impossible to imagine how he managed to be so successful in show business going through life hating Jews *and* Gays, but there you go.

Who does he actually NOT hate? I bet that's a small list.

I haven't seen a Mel Gibson movie in ages. I know he had one out last year and I had no desire to see it. Not only because I dislike him and his bigotry, but his movies suck. Why has Hollywood kissed his butt so much?

he was always moderately talented. he did a credible Hamlet, if i remember. women thought he was super-sexy.

but he's always been crazy. anyone who's seen The Passion of the Christ knows his affection for homoerotic torture porn.

He was attractive back in the day, before anyone knew he was such a psycho bigot. I had zero desire to see Jesus being beaten to a bloody pulp, and now that I know what I know about Mel..well let's just say I don't exactly trust or care what he thinks about Jesus.

Well, I don't justify that, I'm not even a big fan of his work. But wether he is a prick or not (again, I think he's a total fucked up person - at least at the time he did it - for doing that and he could've been castrated as far as I'm concerned), all I'm saying is that his work shouldn't be dismissed because of personal issues. Roman Polanski, the guy... again, would never trust him with a child. Roman Polanski, the director... great talent that should be respected. By the way, Switzerland denied the extradition request by american authorities today, what I think is right (for all the reasons I already explained in other posts).
Allen is more a case of the heart wants what the heart wants. Of course, he was a prick with Mia Farrow and I don't like that, but oh well.

Sorry for the off topic posts by the way.
Back to Gibson, I don't want to hear those tapes cause if it's half of what you guys are saying it will seriously get me on my nerves and my day is bad as it is already. :D

i found the first tape kind of sickly funny because you're like "wow, what an asshole," the second tape is god-awful disturbing.

He was the lead in arguably the greatest action movie of all time: Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior. Not to mention Lethal Weapon, Braveheart, Apocalypto, etc. He's a competent director and one of the last true Hollywood movie stars.

He's obviously an absolute dick in real life but I'm a firm believer that you should love the art, not the artist, so what he does in his private life (positive or negative) has no bearing on my enjoyment of his films.

The more I think about it, I realize it's not so much being able to separate the artist from the work, but about making the decision that I'm not going to support that artist's work anymore.

Not that me not ever giving him another dime is going to mean anything to him, but it means something to me.

I can't believe the posts in this thread that are quasi-defending Roman Polanski. Mel Gibson is certainly a huge douchebag from what we've learned in recent years, but he is way higher on the food chain of humanity than Roman Polanski will ever be. So Polanski hasn't continually raped 13 yr olds for the past 30 years, so he's not so bad? Give me a break. Dude should have been locked up years ago, and still should be locked up.

And anyone who thinks nothing inappropriate went on with Woody Allen and Soon Yi till she was 18 just cause thats what super director Woody said has their head in the sand.

What's this from, Cori? It's driving me nuts. Is it Buffy?

:applaud:

Can't even remember the last MG movie I saw  Definitely had no intereste in Passion of the Christ, or whatever that was called. And definitely no desire to see any of his past work. I wonder what his co-stars would have to say about him.

So Whoopi saying "I'm a friend of Mel's, he's not racist" is the equivalent of a racist crying "I can't be racist! My best friend is black!!!!"

Well, to be honest, racism is the least of his problems in these recent recordings.

I don't think anyone would argue that he is a misogynist. That more than any racism is what comes in sickeningly clear in both of the recordings that I heard.

Oh, definitely. I'm only commenting on that little snippet of The View. If they talked about Mel's other little problems (like, ohhhhh, spousal abuse and making death threats) .... ugh, I don't even want to see/hear it.

I can only take about 1:30 of The View in one sitting. Less time if Elisabeth Hasselbeck is whining talking.

In conclusion: Mel Gibson is a prick, and I can live just fine with never getting around to seeing Braveheart.

You've never seen Braveheart? Wow. I gotta say, that's surprising. I thought that was kind of required viewing for people living through the '90s.

Anyway, Mel's character gets tortured and disemboweled and beheaded at the end of the film, so you might find some enjoyment in that scene at least.

I was talking about his recent movies. I can separate the art from the artist too, but at this point he's such a huge turnoff for me that I can't do it and I don't want to. If I tried to watch a movie of his that's all I'd be thinking about, so what's the point?

Whoopi defended Polanski too, remember it wasn't "rape rape". So I don't give her opinion any weight whatsoever and wouldn't even bother watching that clip. She really enjoys playing devil's advocate and that she's holier than thou for giving everyone the benefit of the doubt to an extreme. She's just a superior human

Check out the thread in FYM-on second thought, don't

I agree with you

She really should have just stuck to playing nuns on the run and such.

It wasn't "rape rape" because obviously the 13 year old girl who was slipped drugs wanted it.
