Most of the cast is easy to take in their respective roles, even Helen Mirren in for Bill Nighy in the original, but even with as much as I've come to respect Crowe as an actor its hard for him to take over from John Simm. Plus not only do we not have James McAvoy (he worked with the director on Last King of Scotland, you probably could have gotten him) but his role isn't even included in this version, he was what infused the proceedings with some fun. That and its a complex 6 hours crammed down to to 2.

But back to your point, yes he does look like Eddie Vedder.
