He has some qualities that remind me of R. Vaughn Williams

Oooh, I'll have to check him out (if I don't already have some of his stuff).

My Mom was a huge Henry Mancini fan as I was growing up, then John Williams hits with Star Wars' soundtrack, and I wind up hooked on soundtracks. Couple that with being a big James Bond movie fan, and there you go.
 
Dances With Wolves is one of my favorite soundtracks.

That Out of Africa score is so insanely good; one for the ages. Punctures your heart in the first ten seconds and doesn't let up.

And it's funny how the music in The English Patient takes some MAJOR inspiration from it, though Gabriel Yared's score is itself one of the best I've ever heard.
