Well, some of the late melodrama was a little cliche, but Gallo's final lines were heartfelt enough for me to work, and I loved the defocus of the lights.

It's also cool how the film went from this kind of early Visconti/Fellini style to something much more over the top, and I also loved the clip of Powell & Pressburger's Tales of Hoffman (the doll's limbs coming off), and how they then paid homage to it in the other theatrical scenes. Incidentally, if you haven't seen any P&P (Black Narcissus, The Red Shoes, Life & Death of Colonel Blimp), you need to make that Priority Numero Uno.

The film went off the rails, but I'd rather see him doing that then playing it safe. And it just felt so Golden Age of European film to me, with a little modern jolt thrown in.

I heard Adam Carolla's Podacast today and he had Coppola as a guest. They spoke briefly at the end about Tetros.
I am looking forward to seeing it.

Just finished watching Grand Torino
Excellent
9.5/10

I have every single movie that he has made in dvd. He is my favorite actor; it all started with the westerns back in the 70's.

He is getting so old.

Went to the drive-in last night. It was a dusk till dawn, 3 flicks for $12 under the stars. This drive-in is maybe a mile from my house and is one of the last in Ontario, so it's all win, but usually packed to overflowing...anyways...

Viewed: Star Trek 9/10 - I loved this, however sortof bugged my daughter with my frequent outbursts of 'so THAT'S how' - 'go spock!' - 'uhuru??!?'...Am I the only person on earth who didn't know that Spock and Uhuru had somethin goin on?!

Cringed Through: Transformers 2 -1000/10 Dear sweet merciful jeebus WHAT THE HELL!?!??! I think this has to go down as quite possibly the worst sequel in the history of movies. It was so bad, I could not even sit through it to get to the third film (I Love You, Man). I have no idea how it ended and I have no desire to ever sit through it even at home, again, to find out. God what a stupid movie. Horrible! And the 'gangsta bots'...seriously, what the fuck. I didn't find them offensive as much as just insulting to my intelligence in assuming that I would in any way find it amusing. Ridiculous. Many people, as I did, left halfway through.

I have to find me a good movie to watch today to erase that shit

So gvox...what'd you think of Transformers?

From what I've heard, you're far from alone. If I could sum up the general reviews of this thing in one line, it would be "Sometimes 'it sucks' doesn't quite say it" Of course I'll probably watch it, I'm hard-headed...but I'll probably download rather than pay

Spock/Uhura was just an example of how the altered timeline changed some of the relationships of the characters. Nothing from the original series.

Yeah... Transformers.

Capturing The Friedmans

Ok, so I'm about 6 years behind on this one, but I've always wanted to see it and I finally got around to it.

In one way it's a huge mess of a documentary: all over the place, the film takes no official position on its subject, but tries to hint at the position it would like to take. It's kind of a giant blob of a documentary.

On the other hand, one could argue, that the way it's edited perfectly captures the zany, frenetic, insane craziness of the family that is its focal point. I can't remember the last time I've watched a film about a more annoying, irritating, nails-scraping-on-the-chalkboard, dysfunctional family.

And yet the film is still riveting and fascinating even though I knew it was completely exploitative, and I felt like I needed to take a long, hot, cleansing shower after the credits rolled.

This film definitely got under my skin.

I rented that a few years back. I agree, it is fascinating. And it feels wrong but I guess that's the point.

it will drop, but still come in top 3.

Right, but I think bad word-of-mouth will have an impact, too. Most of my friends who enjoyed the first one were either lukewarm or negative toward this one. Not that it's a solid indicator, but it seems to echo the current sentiment.

A strong rival to New Moon.

I actually liked it a little more than the first one.

but, one has to keep in mind the expectations thing.

I expected not to like this one.

I liked the fact that most of the fighting was in the mid-east this time.

I got bored last time with the urban setting, cars getting crushed, big buildings getting smashed, etc.

the word of mouth, seems to be ok with the public

Oh! Great catch! Was that made blatantly obvious at some point? The drive-in can be a bit distracting with people passing by, sometimes
