My friends want to go as the Jurassic Park guys next Halloween. I'm supposed to be John Hammond, and the other two are going to be Ian Malcolm and whatever the fuck Sam Neill's character was.

I'm not really sold on it yet.

Even dogs knew not to fuck with this guy

It's a thread marking the death of a musical entertainer, which most posters are treating as an occasion for recounting their personal associations with his professional output. As is appropriate for the forum it's in.

Strawman arguments FTW!

This isn't a private memorial service, it's a discussion thread on an essentially public forum dedicated to U2.

Or do you think some of us are spending the rest of our free time trolling on Michael Jackson fan sites?
That was pretty clearly not an 'argument' at all; there's nothing of substance to argue in this thread. I can agree that it's a kind of discussion thread, but only the people who are here to criticize seem to be interested in making it a discussion about Michael Jackson's moral stature, so it feels like a derail regardless of the sincerity of the criticism. I have no reason to care what other sites you visit or what you say about Michael Jackson on them.

There is NO truth to the rumors that either Jeff Goldblum or Harrison Ford are deceased.

We know it hurts, but no amount of wishing can bring him back.

The BBC has a list of tributes from people who knew Michael, from Madonna to one of his former bodyguards, in case anyone would like to check it out. Some very touching words there.

Tributes

My favorite one, from his former bodyguard:

"He's the most misunderstood man in world. Everyone thought he was this weird freak but when you're with him he's as normal as everyone else. I don't think he felt he was as famous as everyone else thought, he didn't know any different.

"He was a very caring guy who would go out of his way to help the sick. One night in London he wanted to see some homeless people. He sent them loads of pizzas in secret. The guy had a good heart."

You're not funny at all. There is no humor in joking about someone's death.

Thanks, this is very good. I'm still sitting here watching coverage on TV, kind of shocked and numb. Can't sleep. Dejavu of when Lennon died.

you know, trolling this thread shows a stunning lack of class...even for the people who are doing it. even if he was a polarising figure it's still just a guy who died who was loved at least by family and stuff. sure, he's open for a lot of mocking because of his celebrity status - like any celebrity - but there's no point trolling the thread just to get a reaction out of people.

This is phrased like he was going to the zoo and feeding the animals people food.

Thanks for explaining everyone's motive.

Trolls don't usually stick around to discuss their positions in detail.

But feel free to throw around more labels that aren't relevant.
