Oh, Letterman. I used to lionize him when I first discovered him on NBC in my pre-teens. I asked my brothers, while they were watching a tape, when he'd next be on. They said every weekday, and I couldn't believe this great stuff would be on EVERY night. I used to tape it constantly and then Leno, too, when he took over the Tonight Show.

I enjoyed Larry Bud Melman say "Bite Me!" and Viewer Mail. Even the Top Ten list seemed better back then.

The switch to CBS must have come with awful writers. Maybe it's just my age, but, while I agree with Letterman's liberal politics (compared to Leno's soft racism and cheap nationalism, ready to pull for Bush's war and spreading hate toward the French in 2003), I find he's the most lazy talk show host out there. He gets paid, what, $26 million a year, and doesn't really even do anything. He repeats himself constantly and always does stuff with that boring East Asian convenience store owner.

Letterman's okay once in a while, but I can't watch him generally unless it's for the guest.

He has way better musical acts, though -- much better than Leno's usual Top 40 selection.

Not to say I'm defending Paris any ... but, I thought Dave was rather rude how he slammed Paris Hilton.

She definitely took alot of abuse last Friday.

I loved when Hilton was on Letterman. When Hilton was on Larry King, that kiss ass gave her the fuckin lamest questions. Paris Hilton is such a fuckin' twit. I'm glad Dave made her squirm. I'm pretty sure that Dave knew that if a regular schmo did what Paris did, they would've faced stiffer penalties. I'm not a big fan of Dave's anymore, but this interview was one of his better moments.
Bottom Line: You don't tell Dave that you don't want to answer anymore questions about a certain subject. That'll just give him more incentive to needle you. I'm pretty sure she'll never be on the show again, unless Dave is bored and wants to bust her skinny ass again.

http://www.deadlinehollywooddaily.co...pay-his-staff/

I've just learned that David Letterman and his producers yesterday morning announced to his Late Show staff that they will be paid through the end of the year even though the show isn't on the air during the writers strike."Dave's not doing this to get good press, which is why it hasn't been reported for almost two days," a source tells me. "This is really significant because, as opposed to all of the other shows, this money comes out of Dave's own pocket. When Late Show stopped making new episodes last week, CBS ceased paying Letterman's production company on November 5th. And, in case you were wondering, Dave owns Late Show while Jay does not own The Tonight Show as Johnny Carson did. (FYI, earlier this month, a news report claimed Jon Stewart had made a similar offer to pay his staff through the holidays, but then his rep said it was untrue.)

Yes, Worldwide Pants employees are getting paid. However, most of the technical crew for the Late Show and Late Late Show are CBS employees, some of which are non-staff but per diem, even though they work on regular basis. These employees (at least in Los Angeles) have been on the street since day 1 of the strike. CBS does not want to pay them. They're like the bastard child nobody wants to claim."

Just a reminder that striking Late Show writers Eric Stangel, Justin Stangel, Bill Scheft, Steve Young, Matt Roberts, Tom Ruprecht, Jeremy Weiner, Lee Ellenberg, Joe Grossman and Bob Borden have begun a blog about the writers walkout.
