So on our promos (we're waaay behind) Barney apparently shows everyone his 'wife' and 'son'. Obviously a joke, anyone want to enlighten me?
sure!

<he hired actors to play his wife and son. his mom was on her deathbed and he vowed to have a family. his mom recovered so he hired them to keep up the charade. i think i remembered this right.>

I haven't read this thread because I don't want to be spoiled, but I just wanted to ask a question.

I just started watching this last week, I caught up on the first 9 episodes of season 1. I've heard such great things about this show, I expected to be blown away. I wasn't. I like it, it was amusing, but I didn't love it. I know that with a lot of sitcoms, it takes a season for them to find their "legs," and to become really great. Does this show improve, or is what you see at the beginning pretty much what you get all the way through?

The conventional wisdom is that I make the show, and who am I to disagree with that? One might say that I am....wait for it.....wait for it....

...legendary.

Seriously, though, keep watching as it gets better, and there are a lot of situations in the show that people relate to in everyday life.

That being said, can I feel your face, Ms. Punk? I've been blind since my early years, and....wow, you're so beautiful.

The second season's great. And I think if you're only 9 eps into season one, there's things that'll happen in it which should make you fall in love, or at least deeply in like, with it.

By the way, sports fans. Has there been a second season of Big Bang Theory over there? I got really into that.

VP, the second season provides more established definition to the characters, especially Barney's.
After a few episodes of season 2 you will be hooked.

HIMYM>Friends

IMO.

Ted!!!!!

First of all, you spell your last name in a very strange way but I guess it works for ya. And you've seen Robin Scherbatsky naked. So I'm pretty jealous of that. You got any details for us? And, dammit, when are you gonna meet the mother?!?!?

Thanks guys, I'm definitely going to keep watching.

The one thing I noticed about this show that bugs me is the laugh track. I guess for the past several years, the only half hour comedies I've watched are ones that don't have them, so when I started watching HIMYM, it stood out like a sore thumb.

Yep. And I loved Friends.

I think it's one of the things where you don't really notice it. I don't, but that's only because I do watch a fair few sitcoms that have them. Also it's not as obvious as some other shows, like there's no 'oooohh!s' or 'awwwws'

awe, com'on Ted, there is nothing wrong with new jersey!
I have the best bar in town... right downstairs!
I like to think I come across as a nice guy... but I'm telling you, 'cruzila', don't start a fight you aren't going to win.
Ted!!!!!

The name's caused me a bit of trouble. First, apparently I'm a jerk? I have no idea who made that site. Second, I have never done porn.

Well.. hopefully she won't see this. I hate to make you jealous but yeah. She was pretty smokin'.

The mother? Hopefully I'll meet someone soon... I am in my 30s. God. Thirties. Doesn't that make me sound old? My life could be half over! I still haven't been married. I thought Stella was the one, but, I guess not. I always remember this one girl. She was stunning. She had a yellow umbrella... or halloween's not far off, maybe this'll be the year the slutty pumpkin finally shows up again. I feel like a drink.

This show is amazing, I just love it. It's funny, insightful, intelligently written, and touches on very human issues, emotions and experiences.

Tonight's episode was another great example of this. It really makes you think, and ask questions.

Because there are those that aren't up to speed with the series, I won't specifically mention names, but is she the mother? I have a hard time believing this, but the writers certainly want us to think so.

Well the narration was pretty specific tonight, so either she is or she'll lead us to the mother...

So is the absence of Lilly lately due to her pregnancy? Robin was preagnant during the filming of these episodes as well, you could really tell the episode before this week's...

I assume Lily's absence is due to her pregnancy, hence why they used that joke a few episodes back to explain her disappearance.

Ted  We'll have the whole clan on here soon.

I wonder if the writers ever feel they shot themselves in the foot by making it clear she's "Aunt" Robyn in the first episode...

Logically, wouldn't this have to mean that the mother is Robyn's sister? I know a lot of people call family friends aunt and uncle, but still...

Helllllllllllll no. I'm positive she isn't. But they did a good job of tricking the audience into thinking that whoever it was under that umbrella next to Ted was going to be the mother. But it's not her. I honestly think we haven't met the mother yet. Could be soon, though.

People who follow the show and its clues more closely than I do could probably provide more clear cut reasons as to why it's not her. I might have to do a little scrounging around on the interwebz.

They refer to Barney as uncle Barney, so yeah I don't think they are going literal here. Aunt Lily, so on and so on...

Like I said, they were pretty specific...

"Kids, if this day went any different you wouldn't exist..."

So, I'm not sure I would be as positive as you. It's either her or someone met directly through her.

True. I'd forgotten that in my haste.

What season are you into over there? It's gonna be fucking ages before season four comes out here. Can someone please direct me in the direction of one of those magical websites where I can watch season four?
