There were so many insane possibilities proposed over the past two weeks that what we received was bound to be slightly disappointing because we're being forced to settle on something. There are no more possibilities and few loose ends left to discuss. That is inherently disappointing.

Nonetheless, in time, most people will agree that this ending was about as good as we could have hoped for.

That perfectly-placed automatic rifle sure worked out well, especially considering Walt has never been to their compound before. Killed everyone (apparently no one was standing guard outside) except the two villains who needed a final big moment for the camera to be executed by our two protagonists who both had personal grudges against them.

And yet, there's no time for even the shortest of conversations between Walt and Jesse.

FAIL.

A shame, as there was a lot of great stuff in this episode.

Technically, the gun fire killed Walt, too, so it wasn't exactly perfect. And, it's first victim was the lowlife standing guard outside the clubhouse.

No matter what the setup will hope to be during his meeting with Jack, Walt hopes to position the gun so as to kill/cut down as many of them as possible. When he drives through the gate and ignores his escorts direction on where to park and positions the car as best he can. If he had pulled straight up ie nose facing the clubhouse, the gun isn't facing the right way. So he pulls parallel.

A part that required bigger suspension of disbelief for me was Jack feeling so stung by the prospect of Walt dying with the belief that Jack was a liar, that he actually indulges Walt and delays his execution to prove it to him..nahhhh, he'd just say believe what you want asshole and kill him.

Then again,

he's just a fucking dumb as bricks Nazi

First of all, Walt had every intention of dying, so it doesn't matter that the gun shot him too.

Second, you don't have to explain to me why he parked against their instructions. Thanks.

The point is that he HAD NEVER BEEN THERE BEFORE. What if this meeting was in a basement? Or on the second floor? Or somewhere with walls that weren't that thin?

Come on. This was ludicrous. And the only two men left alive are Todd and Jack?

Left unattended, Jack would have died as Walt eventually did. Are you indignant that he lived long enough to have a short conversation with Walt?

Obviously he was fatally wounded. But giving them their big farewells was staged way too neatly, and just reeked of obnoxious treats for the fans.

Because it's impossible to do that in a more subtle fashion. Ok.

Loved the song choice at the end, btw.

Breaking Badfinger.

The more I think about it, ending the show on Granite State, with the cops actually picking up Walt instead of the deus ex Charlie Rose springing him into action, would have been super ballsy but fitting. It would have also pissed off a lot of people. Kinda makes me appreciate The Sopranos finale more. (I'm not saying tonight's finale was bad, it was just conservative)

Way too conservative. And mechanical, like ticking off boxes.

Also, Jesse had, what, like two lines of dialogue?

If Ozymandias had been the finale, with Holly being dropped off at the fire station and Walt driving off to start his new life, I would have been OK with that. Loads of questions left to answer, of course, but the show would have ended with arguably its best episode and a functional ending.

Of course, what we received was much more satisfying.

First of all, Walt did not necessarily have every intention of dying in the hail of his own gunfire. Seems to me he'd probably have taken a dive. His dive wasn't specifically to save just Jesse. He felt compelled to jump at Jesse yes because Jesse, due to the turn of events, ended up in that room. Jesse only ended up part of the equation because Walt needed to create a diversion to buy him a second to get his garage-opener trigger back. His initial intention would be to kill all the dumb Nazis and then rescue Jesse from whatever captivity they had him in.

Then again, I needed to remind you that he did kill the guard stationed outside too.

Well someone had to have given him an address. Maybe he Google satellited the damn thing. And even if that didn't tell him exactly the layout, it would show him generally where it was, so then we must consider the geography here. I don't think many homes out there have basements, do they? Second floors? He took a calculated risk that it would be either in a bungalow or ground floor building, or they'd be standing outside around the car somewhere. I'm also curious to know how much thicker the walls would have to be to a. stay within believably general housing standards out there and b. stop those, what were they, .50 caliber bullets, from penetrating? None of this is a huge stretch at all.

They weren't the only two left alive. Jack was as good as dead. The dumb Nazi who was supposed to kill Walt was still twitching in the chair when Walt went for the gun. He probably died in the next second. Bitches were in various states of wounding and death.
