Nothing for The Dark Knight Rises?

Not that my opinion is relevant as I haven't seen a single one of the films nominated for any category, but TDKR was so good.

Cloud Atlas is more deserving of some noms over TDKR.

I remember after TDK wasn't nommed, some folks were saying that the increase in best film noms was partly a reaction to this.

Only 9/10 noms this year and still no TDKR, but I guess it didn't match the insane hype.

But yeah, only 9/10 noms and still no space for The Master? Bloody Scientologists.

Just watched the last hour or so of the Broadcast Film Critics Association ("Critics' Choice") awards on TV.

J.C. won Best Actress for ZDT, and looked amazing, and started crying and it was really cute. Affleck won Best Director and opened his speech with a couple of cracks at the Academy. I think Jennifer Lawrence is sleeping with Harvey Weinstein. DDL won Best Actor for Lincoln and seemed a little bit stoned. Argo won Best Picture.

The Master deserved a place above some of the dreck and I'm not even really a fan. I'd like to revisit it though. Such a musterious film. TDKR is an irredeemable mess, and I have trouble seeing how so many people manage to love it let alone sit through it for the eternity is lasts. Not just Anti-Nolan sentiments either as I do genuinely understand the appeal of many of his films, TDK included. Just... Yeeesh.

I realize I am bringing some baggage into my viewings. With The Master I wanted it to hit certain of my PTA expectations. On a second viewing I found it to be much better than my first impression. With that I rate it at the top of the list of the popular regarded films of 2012. I still need to see Amour.

Very good films that did not get Oscar noms, Holly Motors, I wish I had gone back for a second viewing. And the aforementioned Rust and Bone, I will catch a second viewing, I want my Marion Cotillard in wide screen.

I know I still haven't seen it, but after all of the hype, I'm also surprised by the single nomination for Moonrise Kingdom.

I watched all of the short animated film nominees. Fresh Guacamole is...awesome.

Damn! I wanted The Master to get a best pic nom and cinematography.

I wonder if Roger Deakins will get honored finally. Life of Pi looked fantastic as well. Kaminski has enough awards.

The best films of any given year usually don't get much awards attention. Then again, a lot of them don't get theatrical release in the states until months into the next year, but they usually don't show up the following year either in terms of foreign material. Working on a year-end list thing in the next week or two, but I think it's looking something like this:

1. Cosmopolis
2. Tabu
3. Not Fade Away
4. Holy Motors
5. In Another Country
6. Passion
7. Amour
8. Lincoln
9. Walker
10. Resident Evil: Retribution
11. Magic Mike
12. Mekong Hotel
13. Jack Reacher
14. Swimmer
15. Berberian Sound Studio

Still haven't seen some big ones - Like Someone in Love, NO, Night Across the Street, Paradise: Love, Student, To the Wonder, Post Tenebras Lux, etc. Most of which I won't get to any time soon. Going by original worldwide/festival release obviously.
15.

You'd rank Jack Reacher and Resident Evil above Django and Skyfall? That's wild, Lance. And Dalton fucked your mom last night.

Haven't seen Django. Skyfall is OK, but whatever.

I like your list

you will enjoy Django ( I think) Skyfall as popular and successful as it is, is not a great film
Resident Evil Retribution is a good film, the opening 10-15 minutes is stunning, I wish I had gone back for a second viewing.
15 years after The Fifth Element, M Jovovich still looks about the same.
