Clooneyfest but Ides of March? I thought it was a very average movie. And the usual weirdness with the categories, like My Week With Marilyn in comedy/musical (but it's not for Kenneth Branagh). I really want to see that but it's not playing anywhere near me. I loved Joseph Gordon Levitt in 50/50.

As much as I'm enjoying the super-crazy-pantsness of American Horror Story, I am LOLing at it being up for "Best" anything.

Best SuperCrazyPants show, maybe.

Are mine eyes deceiving me, or is BREAKING MOTHERFUCKING BAD not nominated for best Drama?

Get the fucking fuck outta here.

And no Aaron Paul or Giancarlo Esposito, either? Fuck me. These awards get worse every year.

I'm sorry. Everybody always has their pet favorites that they think have been slighted, and there are always "snubs" that are brought up in the press, or on message boards, whatever. It's nothing new. But Breaking Bad getting denied except for Cranston's nomination is absolute fucking cockamamie horsehit. And everybody knows it.

I'm sorry. I'll put down the eggnog. No reason to get that upset about award show nominations. But this is some serious heavy bullshit.

Is The Girl with the American Accent even out yet? If not, how did it get a nom?

The Breaking Bad and Tree of Life snubs are baffling.

There's always something on the GG noms list that makes many people go WTF. Pia Zadora, The Tourist .... I guess this year it's the Breaking Bad snub.

American Horror Story instead of Breaking Bad in those noms. Um ..... um ..... yeah, I got nothing. It's baffling.

As far as stuff not being released yet, that's not uncommon. I don't remember what the rule is - it has to show at a festival? There's something like that in the nomination rules. It happens every year, when some of the big Oscar Bait films aren't in wide release yet.

war horse
:up::up::up:
I saw it a few weeks ago and it was fantastic. I can't wait until I can see it again, actually.

Snubs aren't snubs anymore. It's just that the production company of x show/movie didn't shower the voters/unions/superexclusiveclubs with gifts, lavish parties and cocaine. Anyone who still thinks awards mean something is out of touch. The only awards that matter are those you award with your heart.

lol.

Haven't seen Hugo or War Horse. Will see WH over Christmas, not a lot of interest in Hugo, though.

Saw The Descendants at TIFF (at the gala premiere with George). Didn't love it, to be honest. I kept thinking about how I wanted to go spend more time in Hawaii during the movie but that's about it.

The Help - pleasant adaptation of a middle-of-the-road book. Weird nom.

Ides of March - I liked it well enough but the one thing that I took issue with is that it was really obvious to me that this was adapted from a play. To the point of distraction (relatively few characters with speaking roles, the dialogue and so on).

Moneyball - I really loved this movie, not because I think it's a great film or anything but because it made me care about baseball. And I found Brad Pitt to be really charming in it.

Not a terribly inspired list.

That's cool :) I thought Brad was very charming in it too. I loved it since I already love baseball, and the father daughter part was sweet too.

My expectations of The Descendants were very high so that's probably why I didn't think it was GREAT. For me it's one of those quiet movies that gets better in retrospect. And I did like seeing George as a dad. I saw Hugo in 3D and I thought it was such an enjoyable escapist type of movie. Visually it's beautiful.

I saw The Help too, never read the book but I know about all the criticisms of it. But I was very moved and I cried.

So let me get this straight, you have little interest in Hugo, yet you went to see Moneyball despite not caring about baseball beforehand?

My better half happens to love sports and sports movies.
