Your favorite politician of all time...

The more I learn about Robert Kennedy the more I adore him. Not to mention I find him 20x more attractive than John. He also didn't have the baggage that JFK did. He truly cared about the poor, which to him was a big issue, something we unfortunately don't hear enough of today. He would have loved Bono. May he RIP.

I don't know too much about Robert Kennedy but everything i heared of him resulted in high respect for this person.

My favourite politican of all time is Helmut Schmidt
You can find more about him in the Wikki
I don't agree with all of his views but every time he has a different opinion i realize me thinking "wow - that's a good point, i haven't thought of this before"

This is a toughie for me, being a medievalist. I don't want to propose a monarch, however. I think my favorite American president is FDR. He was so innovate and gutsy, at a time when we really needed a President like that. Perhaps the most honest, and sincere, American ever was Eugene Debs. Yes, he was a Socialist. He was too idealistic and naive, but awfully damn good. He was steadfast enough to go to jail for his beliefs rather than change them or go through any false recantations.

Paul Wellstone. The world lost a great man when he died.

I'm also very fond of Bill Clinton, flaws and all.

Well none of the Australian politicians we have had in my lifetime - can you say bland

I have met Kim Beasley, and he was friendly and warm but that doesnt make him a good politician.

Maybe also Willem Drees.
Both are politicians from long ago, which says something about current-day politics.

C ya!

I used to think, in spite of his flaws, JFK. But I would probably pick Robert Kennedy. He could have accomplished so much.

Yeah, it's a damn shame that Robert Kennedy got killed. I hate it that that happened.

Clinton, even with all his flaws.

I'm in the majority also when I say Robert Kennedy.

Is this limited only to elected officials, or can we pick activists, too?

I picked an activist, Eugene Debs, so I hope activists are OK.

I mean, a lot of people I consider to be politically significant, like Martin Luther King, Lucretia Mott, Dorothy Day, and Sojourner Truth, did not hold office, but worked effectively with politicians for social change.

If we're just going for elected (or in RFK's case, appointed) officials, I would have to say (Franklin) Roosevelt. What a monumental presidency.
