Not true. Debit cards are equally protected by fraudulent purchases. The only real difference is that you don't generally get your money back right away, which isn't an issue with credit cards.

Really? Then I stand corrected.

But still, if your checking account gets wiped out it could leave a trail of destruction with bounced checks.

I didn't get a credit card either, until I was 32(!) when I had an emergency (*namely, for the first time ever that year, I had to make an income tax payment instead of getting a refund, and couldn't afford it before April 15.) PLus, Monnie Dearest told me that you more or less Have to have one, to establish a credit record for banks to lok at when you purchase a home, etc.

My debt is very small, but I had to use most of my card limit over the last few months just for the aformentioned groceries, etc. I have no problem making the payments, and little more besides. I'm always getting crap in the mail from other credit agancies, offeirng me more crds, but I've stcuk to the one I have. I don't even have (for example) Macy's or Sears cards or any store cards. Just the Discover card. I don't see HOW anyone can support 5 cards, let alone 2 or 3!!

The only time I take mine off is when I go in the public swimming pool.
