The Paris stuff I find even more troubling. I think I understand the Paris stuff more than this though. I understand the reasons for the anger more than I understand this.

Paris makes more sense than BA, is that the "this"? Interesting. I guess I see them as eminating from the same global structures, just as Aru suggests. I have a crazy day today but I can try to get some of my books on neoliberalism and the social contract and post some quotes, if any one is interested. Might be just a few of us. :nerd:

Although I don´t like Bush at all, I would NEVER act so wild and I would NEVER bring a whole city in turmoil. There´s no sense in that, the gift of reason must come out everytime, people (in that case, the ones who have brought all that chaos in argentina) must know that this or the other politician doesn´t give a damn about when such demonstrations happens, once he´s done his visit, he goes away leaving everything behind.
You can yell, you can devastate like a wild animal, but once this or that politician is gone, all that remains is just violence and damage, which are not the things that people must produce and need.........................

In general I approve of freedom of individuals and companies to start businesses and create wealth and employment. I think it's a good thing myself, and remarkably better than the alternatives that socialism offers.

If this is so then we need to support the environment that allows for this, Capitalism.
It's against the law to own property or a businesses in communist countries and in socialist ones the high taxes kill the incentive to take risks. No new businesses = no new jobs.

I assume you're referring to the protests in Argentina?

Almost choked on my coffee this am when I turned over the NY Times to see pics of El Comandante all over it. LOL.

Cindy Sheehan to join Maradona and Hugo Chavez in a protest against president Bush.

Cindy Sheehan, who has been leading anti-war protests in the US after her son was killed in Iraq, will travel to Argentina next week to protest the visit of president Bush to the Summit of the Americas that will take place in Mar del Plata Argentina on November 3-5.

According to Argentinean newspapers, Ms. Sheehan will march with Venezuelan president Hugo Chavez, a
self proclaimed 'socialist' and a declared enemy of the United States, Diego Armando Maradona an ex-soccer player and current drug addict who said last week in Havana that Castro is his 'god' and that president Bush is a criminal and by Silvio Rodriguez, a Cuban singer and songwriter who is allowed to play in foreign countries as long as the money comes to his slave master, who in turn allows Silvio to live a much better life than his fellow Cubans can have.

Ms. Sheehan has said that she is trying to "honor her son" by protesting the war. But it is hard to understand how sharing the stage with Chavez, who is spending billions of dollars that belong to the Venezuelan people trying to keep Castro in power oppressing and murdering his people and with a drug addict who is proud to show his tattoos of a mass murderer like che Guevara, will honor her son memory.

How will the thousands of Cuban mothers, who have lost their sons at the hands of the criminal that Maradona calls 'god,' will feel when they see Cindy Sheehan joining hands with him in her anti-Bush crusade?......

.....Cindy Sheehan is becoming the new Jane Fonda. It is sad to see how this woman is being used and manipulated by those radicals who pay her expenses and pull her strings.

^ Bit surprising to find a professed Catholic posting these articles, given the Vatican's very clear position on the Iraq war.

Aru suggests I am a racist

I pretty much have tuned him out.

You have tried conversing with me...and I am trying to get it.

I have not called anyone racist. If that is taken from my words, I apologize, sincerely. But if you read my first post, which was a bit bitchy and based on Dread's original post that I found horribly problematic, I called no person on this list a name.

I have seen much inferrred, implied, and subtle racism on Interference in general. As white people, it is our responsibility to deal with the fact of white privilege without "tuning people out" who call us on our issues.

Cindy Sheehan, God bless her, is a mother who lost a son. Hugo Chavez, and his world cronies are not there to grieve with her. They are only there to benefit from and twist the propaganda associated with her anti-war stance because it hurts the US.
In this way she is being used.

Can we please allow Cindy Sheehan the respect of making her own decisions?

Is it because she is female that we assume she is being used by radicals?

Perhaps having your son die in this waste of a war itself is a radicalizing experience?

It is sad to see how people are manipulated and used by Bushco and their lackies in the media.

The policies of Bushco have hurt the US infinitely more than Chavez's rantings.

I'm amazed you can't see this.

Funny how almost every issue regarding other world leaders is immediately bypassed for yet another shot at Bush.

I officially do hereby retract any insinuation that any one in this particular thread is, was, or has ever been racist. Fast fingers getting away from reasonable argument, which we all need.

But please, why all the "wild animal" remarks and dismay and hand-wringing about rioting?

What was the Boston Tea Party?

Without riots and much more mayhem, we'd be subjects of England.

I know some people on FYM generally support the war, the death penalty, and so on. It baffles me how some can be for those things and against rioting.

-Absolutely. But is she opposing the war, which is fine, or using the war?
-"Being used" is an equal opportunity regardless of gender. It is at times when we are most vulnerable that we are 'used'.
-I grief with her and for her at the loss of her son. War is hell and we must avoid it if possible.

cindy sheehan has use her tragedy to turn herself into an absolute joke and nothing more than a pawn for those looking to use her for their own political gain.

it's sad.
While I empathize with the loss, I find no reason for her to refer to the Anti-Iraq Forces (also known as insurgency) as "freedom fighters." That is way over the top.
