Wouldn't Changing The Channel Be Better?

Dan Rather Must Go

I guess there is a kernal of an argument if there is a connection between the news department and the Kerry campaign.

I don´t really know what this is about, but it seems a slimey intrigue against a single news person to me.

It looks like CBS is in cahoots with the Kerry campaign. This isn't good for their credibility. Of course you can just change the channel. This was incredibly stupid. I still can't believe they did this.

I don't think CBS is in cahoots with the Kerry campaign any more than The New York Times was in cahoots with the Bush White House during the run up to war. And no one ever called for Judith Miller to be fired.

Dan Rather made a terrible decision, and it will unfortunately tarnish an otherwise respectable career. Any of his future reports will (rightfully) be called into question because of this incident. If I were him I'd quietly resign after the election.

Of course CBS isn't *officially* connected with the Kerry campaign. The Swift Boat people weren't officially part of Bush's campaign, but they added to it. People who have agendas to sell who aren't officially in any campaign are all over the place this year, thus the explosion of the 527's. McCain-Feingold is contributing to this scenario. It seems like everytime they seem to solve a problem a new one rears its ugly head.

Well the Swift Boat Vets ties to the campaign are a little more tangible than CBS's but otherwise I agree with you.

I'd say haveing connecting party officials with the source of your false memos (and then the party generates a commercial citing the false memos) is a tad more tangible.

fine. get rid of Rather. but if you get rid of Rather for being "connected" to the Kerry campaign, you have to toss the entire Fox News dept. I actually stomached O'Reilly last night for a small time. I guess he did an interview with Bush this week and kept saying last night "Well, the president told me this or that so I believe him." You're a reporter! It's not your job to decide if you believe the president or not. You report!

Rather was sloppy with fully findong out where he got his information. That's all.

O'Reilley isn't a conventional reporter... he's more of a pseudo pundit on an entertainement show. I don't see how people don't see that?

i bet some young guy working at CBS got too excited about the story and wanted to be what bob woodward was to nixon for this generation. they story was so radical and potentially damaging that the executives probably picked it up without checking the credentials. that's my little theory anyway. either way, even if dan rather doesn't quit/get fired, i think some people will lose their jobs...

There are alot of reporters than want to be Woodstein. I was one myself uncovering the disasterous screw-ups and insider dealing of the Univ. of Missouri's student government. Mwahahahahaha!
