i'm not sure if anyone ever brought this up yet, but i thought this was ridiculous when i heard about it.

i was talking to my biology teacher from last year after school about politics and whatnot. and then he brought up iowa building a rainforest. (or planting, whatever) me: "what? you mean a rainforest? like a rainforest rainforest? in iowa? WHAT?"
sure enough. gotta love that pork.

Thanks, OneBadLemon, for posting these ideas here in FYM.

Personally, I wish that we would have MORE discussion here about environmental issues and really less about partisan politics.

But I guess the two major parties are on such opposite sides when it comes to environmental issues, that I guess they are intertwined.

Unfortunately, trees and birds and fish don't vote, so we HAVE TO SPEAK UP FOR THEM.

Keep posting these articles, OneBadLemon!

I wouldn't call the project pork... it might be bad timing since there are some emergencies to be dealt with in the next couple years of budgets and I would like to see our education system get back on track before embellishing it with a large project. However, I'm sure it was on the drawing board well before September 11th, Iraq and before the global health emergency got to being an emergency.

I would love to travel to Iowa to see it when it's completed! :)

We seem to dismiss space exploration in favor of "problems at home". I wonder how many Iowans could have used the money instead of this ill fated project?

i don't feel that a 4.5 acre indoor (i believe, i mean, really how can a tropical rainforest survive in iowa?) rainforest is what iowa, or any of us really need.

yes, there is too much snow in minnesota. damn that snow
