And what will the US do about it when they do?

Taipei (dpa) - Tens of thousands of Taiwanese took to the streets in two cities on Saturday to tell the world that the island nation deserved the right to join the United Nations.

Led by Taiwan's President Chen Shui-bian, supporters of Chen's ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) chanted slogans calling for the world to back the island's bid to join the United Nations in the name of Taiwan.

"Taiwan, go, go, go," and "Referendum to safeguard Taiwan," shouted the supporters wearing headbands and green vests as they waved small green flags while marching to a park in the southern port city of Kaohsiung.

Organizers claimed some 300,000 showed up for the march to demonstrate their support for Taiwan to join the United Nations.

China will posture forever but they won't go to war.

They need the Money and Technology from Taiwan too much, and now that investment restrictions have been loosened up for Taiwanese doing business on the mainland, they are happier

There's no guarantee, though, that Taiwan would vote for independence. The debate for reunification versus independence is still very active there.

Regardless, if the U.S. fulfills its treaty obligations, if China invades Taiwan, there is only one option: the two nations go to war over Taiwan. And that's a result that neither nation is interested in.
