I'm not really an expert in anything. It's alarming how little I actually know in any given field.

My specialty in history is Russia and Eastern Europe. I can tell you too much about Lev Trotsky. I found myself holding a drunk lecture on Stalin at The Breakfast King last weekend to a bunch of Goths.

Despite studying literature for 4 years, I'm far from an expert in any of it. I suppose Shakespeare would be my strongest area, with some Anglo-Saxon and WWI trench poetry thrown in.

I can also tell you alot about tide pools. Or used to be able to.

Oy. Reminds me for some reason of a crusty but big-hearted philo prof/mentor of mine back in college who, treated to a fellow student's rather navel-gazing tales of woe about his moroseness and existential despair, snapped, "What do you expect! Nietzsche, Hegel, Heidegger--you've been marinating yourself in all these goddamn fatalistic Krauts!"

WWI trench poetry--now there's a fascinating area of interest.
