What is God?

If God was a tangible human being, how would you best describe Him?

Discuss.

While I'd prefer it was option 3. I think He is a deadbeat dad.

Some deadbeat dad. He willingly gave his life on a cross to redeem you from your own sin.

True (and I agree with you). Another way of looking at it is represented by an interesting quote;

"He strung up his own son like a side of veal; I'd shudder to think what He'd do to me".

Ant.

i didn't choose it, but deadbeat dad does have some resonance -- from tsunamis to genocide ... if god were a parent (and i don't think he is) he's taken the idea of "tough love" to murderous extremes.

notice i said "if."

Why does God allow tsunamis to happen? The only reason I can give is that he allows nature to take its course.

But "genocide", I can address. Man has free will, man makes choices. God usually does not interfere with man's choices. Want to blame someone for genocide? Blame the people who commit these atrocious acts, not God.

Honestly, none of those are even close, but I'm trying to think of my own way to describe God....

Ant.
That quote overlooks the REASON Jesus was strung up like a side of veal. It was done so that Ant could survive death and step into a mind-blowing other dimension called Heaven.

Also, in the truest sense, it wasn't God sacrificing his son (a separate being), he sacrificed himself. The relationship b/w Father and Son comes together into One when you think about it.
