Funny enough, don't let the term, "Conservative Judaism," fool you too much. It's quite more liberal than a lot of Christian sects! Hope it helps...

Hi kerc

Well, at least you were closer than I was
wink.gif
Who knows how accurate their method of assessing is, though.

I was just noticing that a number of people who were "raised catholic" ended up with Roman Catholic as one of the last two on their list. Five people in fact. Well, four...anitram says she/he *is* Catholic, which I assume means practicing, not just raised that way. Anyway, I'm curious if others who had Catholicism at the bottom of their list would consider themselves "raised catholic". I'm not trying to say anything about Catholicism, just looking at a pattern in this little "quiz". Dr. Teeth, martha, Christiana, travu2, clarityat3am...any of you willing to mention what religion you were "raised in"?

I was raised Lutheran! I don't know which synod; whatever one had a church at the top of Wirt Street in Omaha. I loved it, went to Sunday school every Sunday, vacation Bible school, the whole shebang. My top matches fit me perfectly, except the Neo-Paganism, but I know which questions got me into that category.

As for whoever was saying that they arent sure what the difference is between catholics and protestants... The big difference between the two is that Protestants dont recognize the Pope as being a direct descendant of Peter, whereas Catholic do (twelve years of catholic school here

). That's the major difference, but it gets more complicated once you start getting into the different sects of the protestant faith....

Thanks Melon for clearing that up. You must find the study of various religions quite fascinating. What I found most interesting about this is the fact that I do not follow any organised religion, instead forming my own ideas on God/religion, to find that it actually fits one. Albeit one I haven't really heard much about. I wonder if its quite accurate?

smile.gif

Judaism is an incredibly fascinating religion to study, particularly since, contrary to popular fiction, there is far more to their belief system than the Old Testament, which has been mostly rendered obsolete in their religion by post-Biblical scripture.

It is just too bad that much of Judaism is underestimated and overlooked, due to Christianity and to two millennia old anti-Semitism. Although it has been labelled a dying religion in the past, I still think that there is much that one can learn from it, and it would be a pity to merely cast it aside.

Just my two cents...

I had noticed what your faith was in an earlier thread. I know very little of the Baha i faith, but what I do know of it interests me.
I'm sure you have heard of Khalil Gibran and his book, "The Prophet", right? http://www.library.cornell.edu/colldev/mideast/propht.htm
I discovered this beautiful book recently and I understand that either he was influenced by your faith, or he was of your faith.

In any case, just wanted to say "hi".

1. What is the number and nature of the deity (God, gods, higher power)? Choose one.

Only one God--a corporeal spirit (has a body), supreme, personal God Almighty, the Creator.
__________________________________________
X Only one God--an incorporeal (no body) spirit (Ex 33:20, Romans 1:20), supreme, personal God Almighty (Revelation 4:11, Psalm 83:18), the Creator (Genesis 1:1).
__________________________________________
Multiple personal gods (or goddesses) regarded as facets of one God, and/or as separate gods.
The supreme force is the impersonal Ultimate Reality (or life force, ultimate truth, cosmic order, absolute bliss, universal soul), which resides within and/or beyond all.
The supreme existence is both the eternal, impersonal, formless Ultimate Reality, and personal God (or gods).
No God or supreme force. Or not sure. Or not important.
None of the above.

What priority do you place on this selection?
High

---------------------------------------------
2. Are there human incarnation(s) of God (or of gods/goddesses)? Choose one.

God is (or gods/goddesses are) supreme, and no incarnations.
________________________________________
X One incarnation (i.e. personification of God and not the supreme God). (Jesus Christ Matthew 3:16-17; John 12:12-13, 28)
________________________________________
Many (or countless) incarnations.
No particular incarnations because God is all and all are God (or God is in all).
No incarnations as there is no God. Or not sure. Or not important.
None of the above.

What priority do you place on this selection?
High
---------------------------------------------
3. What are the origins of the physical universe and life on earth? Choose one.

As in the book of Genesis, God created a mature universe and mature life forms from nothing in less than 7 days, less than 10,000 years ago.
__________________________________________
X As in the book of Genesis, but "day" is not 24 hours, possibly refers to thousands (or even millions) of years, or to creation phases. (James 3:12,Genesis 2:4; 2 Peter 3:8)
__________________________________________
God is creating and controlling the phenomena uncovered by scientists. Or there are other spiritual explanations, but not in conflict with scientific discovery.
All matter and life forms are manifestations (or illusions) of the eternal Absolute (Ultimate Truth, Universal Soul or Mind, etc.).
Only natural forces (like evolution) and no Creator or spiritual forces. Or not sure. Or not important.
None of the above.

What priority do you place on this selection?

---------------------------------------------
4. What happens to humans after death? Choose one.

Souls are judged immediately for a foretaste of heaven or hell. At the final judgment, God (or Christ) will resurrect and judge all for heaven or hell. (Or souls may also be judged for punishment and/or purification before heaven.)
Death results in unconsciousness until, at the final judgment, God (or Christ) will raise the living righteous to heaven; resurrect and destroy the wicked on earth; return the righteous to a paradisal earth for eternity.
_________________________________________
X Souls don't survive death. God (or Christ) will resurrect the righteous at the final judgment for eternity in heaven or on a paradisal earth; the wicked will remain dead. (Ecclesiastes 9:5, 10; John 11:11-14, 23-26; Psalm 37:10)
__________________________________________
The soul's spiritual development continues after death so that all may eventually experience the indescribable joy of closeness to God. Hell is not a place but the tormented state of remoteness from God.
Rebirths occur (continually, or until all life's lessons are learned and one merges with the life force, or until complete enlightenment and eternal bliss are attained).
There is definitely an afterlife, but the specifics cannot be known or are unimportant--most important is one's conduct in life.
No afterlife; no spiritual existence beyond life; no literal heaven and hell. Or not sure. Or not important.
None of the above.

What priority do you place on this selection?

5. Why is there terrible wrongdoing in the world? Choose one.
__________________________________________
X Humans inherited sinfulness, or a damaged nature, or tendency to yield to Satan's temptations from Adam and Eve, who committed the original sin against God.
(Romans 3:23; 5:12,18)
________________________________
Wrongdoing results from God-given free will plus a weak side, or a drive to satisfy personal needs, which sometimes results in wrongful choices (and/or vulnerability to Satan's temptations).
Ignorance of one's true existence as pure spirit and as one with the Universal Truth (or soul, mind, etc.) can lead to wrongdoing.
Not listening to the voice of God, who resides within all, can lead to wrongdoing.
Egoism (self-importance) leads to desire, craving, and attachments, which can lead to unwholesome thoughts and behavior, i.e., greed, hate, and violence.
No supernatural or spiritual reasons. Human nature, psychology, sociology, criminology, etc., explain wrongdoing. Or not sure. Or not important.
None of the above.

7. Why is there so much suffering in the world? Choose ALL that apply.

__________________________________________
X The original disobedience of Adam and Eve caused all mankind to inherit mortality, which includes bodily imperfection, illness, and decay.
__________________________________________
Suffering is part of God's divine will, plan, or design (to discipline, test, challenge, strengthen faith, strengthen character, promote moral growth, or for reasons that we cannot or may not know).
Suffering is a state of mind (or illusion); only our spiritual nature is real.
Spiritual or cosmic imbalance and disharmony may result in suffering.
Unwholesome thoughts and/or deeds (greed, hatred, and violence) in this or prior lives return as suffering (karma).
None of the above; human suffering has nothing to do with the supernatural or karma.

2. Are there human incarnation(s) of God (or of gods/goddesses)? Choose one.

X God is (or gods/goddesses are) supreme, and no incarnations.
________________________________________
One incarnation (i.e. personification of God and not the supreme God). (Jesus Christ Matthew 3:16-17; John 12:12-13, 28)

Many (or countless) incarnations.
No particular incarnations because God is all and all are God (or God is in all).
No incarnations as there is no God. Or not sure. Or not important.
None of the above.

You Just Can't Get Enough Of That Lovey Dovey Stuff...

Hitman, I think the SAFEST way to view this test is more analytical than in any other way. I don't think this test is telling people to go out and try this religion first hand. I think this test is getting people to find out about their own beliefs and where they fall according to established organized religions. Then the next step is to find out more about that religion before you decide to actually become a member!!!

If this test is truly a determination of what you actually are, according to the Bible, it should also have the organized religion of SATAN.

KERC and SCATTEROFLIGHT, what answers of yours were different from my answers???? I'm reeeeeal curious!!!

BUT, who made up the "standards" in this web site to judge each religion or demonination as to what each "believes" or prescribes to???

It seems obvious to me that people who made up this test RESEARCHED the different organized religions' official doctrines. Then, they were able to compare each religion for common threads...like a belief in one God or two. These questions are very basic to establish a religious organizations' stand in any major issue in society dealing with "BELIEFS" and not necessarily proven (to the satisfaction of everyone's eyesight) scientific fact. FAITHS are supposed to establish some kind of answer to these major issues that science or human government doesn't provide to a person's satisfication...ok?
