namkcuR, are you getting upset about a comment made by one soap factory worker? (the text highlighted in red)

Actually, I think he's agreeing with it.

And yeah, we do look stupid and pushy and obnoxious, but that's nothing new.

Okay, thanks. I'll leave now. I really hate threads were a quote is made, and a leading title is offered, and we have to guess the opinion of the poster. Im foreign and dont know half of the context of these things.

Beli, it's okay. Maybe we all in FYM should be a little more careful about thread titles...

Just because one factory worker doesn't like this doesn't mean no one likes it. I think Gere means well, but this is really naive and crazy because Palestinian society is far more conservative than ours is as far as the whole celebrity thing is concerned. I'm sure they don't give a rip what an American actor thinks of their elections. If I were Palestinian, hell, I wouldn't either. It's their country, they'll talk to each other about it and decide from there.

We need another boat to spend 6 years floating around Christmas island so we have a reason to start a thread.

If that happens we'll know who did it.

Richard Gere... I can't imagine who would want this man to represent them. I hope he enjoys Ramallah or Canada or wherever he's going, since it's where he belongs. How are people supposed to think of Bush opposers as patriotic when so many like Richard Gere are talking about leaving the country if Bush won?

Personally, I never felt like I had to leave the country if Bush won or whatever. But I don't think the people who are leaving for this reason dislike America; they dislike the government. If you're patriotic, you want the best for your country. If someone sincerely thinks that too many things are screwy with it, and has the money to live in another country and all of that jazz, then I don't see anything wrong with it. It's a choice. I need to live in a temperate climate due to health reasons. Some countries would kill me with their cold or rainy climates. No thanks.

I think that on avarage Bush is considered a moron outside the USA

about 90% of the people who would state this don't even know much about politics in their own country though
which doesn't exactly mean that Bush isn't a moron, but yes

I think that Gere "misunderestimated" his celebrity appeal among PLO Arabs. Hopefully he will be keeping up his good work on the forgotten occupation of Tibet.
