Figured it was that. My buddy (before he went to college, the job, the dui, and the teaching) was also shot in the calf slinging dope.

Maybe it was him.

I watched season 1 of the Wire so far.

Checking in, cos I'm interested. Got pretty wrapped up in the 2012 elections. A shame we won't have The Colbert Report, but maybe he'll still have some sharp work as Late Night host?

Also sad Obama's moving on. I think he's been a pretty cool, fun president.

In the meantime, here's our current prime minister (we still can't have a president because a bunch of old, white fuckwits cry every time they hear a member of the royal family so much as sneezes) eating a raw onion looped to Darude Sandstorm.

Oh man, i had a friend who did that and he didn't like it so much that he eventually went back to cutting hair. I believe he makes much more money cutting hair than designing whatever.

If it weren't for my gig i would probably be selling cars. I went straight from HS to the Army, never finished college in all of these years. I am truly blessed.

Goddamnit, my condolences! I'm more than halfway through my degree in this field, albeit slightly different profession, and this is a reality commonly understood by many.

I could vote for George Pataki. I've done it before.

His stance on gay marriage would be the only thing holding me back, but if he comes out publicly for it he'll never get nominated... which is the GOP's biggest problem. Anyone with moderate stances can't get nominated.

Not that he'll get nominated anyway, but still.

I had a friend I worked with who got fired for getting a DUI. Went home to Baltimore and taught 7-year olds and loved it.

People get into Teach for America to get a job right out of school. There is no long term sustainability in working for that program, which makes this a rather lazy response to Martha's point.

I did it for 6 years then got out, now I'm back in the field but in a different capacity. Much happier and more comfortable.

In Canada, they're all making 6 figures, some very high 6 figures.

So sure, they're not living better than their patients, if their patients are investment bankers.

I find anyone who claims that they are a libertarian but "tend to side with the republicans on social issues" to be a huuuuge hypocrite. Libertarianism is founded on liberty. Freedom. If anything, the reverse is acceptable. Believing in social libertarianism while accepting certain forms of non-invasive institution is fair. If you describe yourself as a libertarian and social republican, you're just a republican. This would be like calling Rand Paul libertarian. He only gets such a name because of his father. He's a republican, and not the good type.
