Not sure what this is supposed to mean because you really wouldn’t be able to tell the difference between a Canadian and US hospital in terms of how it looks...

Thought I was pretty clear in the context it was in... seems like you’ve twisted that a little bit. Heck, given the post it’s a part of, I’m a bit surprised you think in any way I’m saying something negative about a Canadian hospital or positive about an American one.

Honestly I don't understand what you meant. Canadian hospitals aren't going to put you up in the Ritz...as opposed to which hospitals, I guess would be my question.

Again I’m not sure why you’re taking it out of context. This original response was to iyup, who said he was surprised that the Canadian system didn’t seem very comprehensive. My post was going on about how it establishes basic human rights. Providing universal healthcare doesn’t imply you’re going to get a private room with 1200 thread count Egyptian cotton pillows (I’m not suggesting that Canadian hospitals are or aren’t nice). The system is designed to give you your basic needs. In summary, the system “is as comprehensive as it needs to be” in order to ensure everyone basic human rights.

OK, fair enough. I don't feel like I was taking you out of context - still see it as an odd comment but moving on.

We also do have wholly-private clinics for the wealthy, but those are usually for general health checks/scans and not treatment facilities. You can simply skip the line and get a lot of tests/results done in a day. And fertility clinics are entirely private in the sense that they lie outside of the covered healthcare system, though some provinces do cover some extent of treatment. But they are most like US clinics in that you go, you pay a shit ton of $, and you get a different sort of service than you would otherwise.

There is also this weird myth among many Americans that the government tells us what doctor we can and can't see and that is so outside of any sort of reality that I don't understand how it has any legs. When I hear of Americans struggling to do this or that within their "insurance network", THAT is far less freedom than we have. I've never been mandated a doctor or specialist in my life and I've been a very heavy user of our healthcare system for various reasons.

Praise Jesus, the old men are bleeding support.

Sens. Kamala Harris and Elizabeth Warren have made steep gains after the first Democratic presidential debate, a new CNN poll conducted by SSRS. shows, with former Vice President Joe Biden's lead over the field shrinking to a narrow 5 points.

The poll, conducted after the two-night debate, finds 22% of registered voters who are Democrats or Democratic-leaning independents backing Biden for the party's presidential nomination, 17% Harris, 15% Warren and 14% Sen. Bernie Sanders. No one else in the 23-person field tested hits 5%.

My prediction: Bernie will be the first of the big names to go down. Most of his voters will go to Warren.

We are pretty much headed towards semifinals of Biden v. Harris and Warren v. Sanders if it continues down this path. Doubt Sanders backs down so long as Harris and Biden both exist.

Actually, filing bankruptcy is more socialism than capitalism. "I can't pay my bills so let's get rid of them, which of course passes on the costs to others.

Socialism!

I continue to be amused by your militant socialist stance, while you live in the USA and benefit from capitalism every day if your life. You must really be jealous of those who've earned more than you.

How edgy.

Do YOU honestly stand for anything?!

Just the president of a shit hole country telling a blatant racist talkshow host that homelessness started two years ago, that it doesn't exist in DC because he apparently thinks he's also the fucking mayor or something, and that he's thinking of scooping them all up off the streets to, I dunno, add them to hide concentration camps he's building on the border.

If you still support this man, may you rot in the make-believe hell you think liberals are going to forever.

I will be pleasantly surprised if Bernie drops out before the convention....assuming of course he doesn’t make progress from where he’s at now

He’s already started his game of the establishment being against him, and refused to answer if he would drop out before convention unlike last time.

I want either Warren or Harris. The issue is, can either (or both) win PA, FL, WI, MI....etc that Biden probably wins (minus FL)

I don’t want Harris. Honestly you can give me Biden or Harris, I’d still feel like I’m getting a gimmick. I’ll vote for either though.

I feel bad for Sanders though. You bring up a question the guy was asked - that’s the motive of the establishment of democrats he opposes. Instead of listening, they just want him to go away. And that’s why the conversation has shifted left.

My ideological spirit animal remains Elizabeth Warren. I've said all along that she is the closest to me in terms of what I would support. It's remarkable how she has been able to rise after a completely disastrous roll-out of the campaign. And Sanders is bleeding voters to her. I am not anti-Sanders like many others, and I think that he deserves most of the credit for the Democrats pivoting left. But he comes across as old, tired, and out of ideas. Whereas Warren, who is basically no younger, has an energy about her, and has caught an amazing second wind. And she's working harder than anyone else to hustle voters and get her ideas, actual ideas and not empty platitudes out. I move in very corporatist circles due to my job and my husband's. He is socially liberal but very fiscally conservative and disagrees with Warren completely on a number of issues, and especially the wealth tax. But he says he finds her incredibly compelling now and that he believes that she believes the things that he says. And among that cohort of voters like him, I am hearing the same thing over and over again. These people have never spoken the same way of Bernie and think him to be a joke.

Kamala Harris is much more centrist than I am, but I do think that she has some very big things going for her. First, she is very calculated and came here to win. You can see it in her rollout, you can see it in her fundraising, you can see it in her approach to the debate. She is not playing for second place. Second, she is willing to be ruthless. Third, there is no way that woman would allow Trump to stalk her all over the stage. She would take it to him and be willing to be brutal. Fourth, and this is horrible to have to say but she is stunning and very photogenic, and next to Trump who looks like a dirty, wet, obese dishrag, it is a really stark contrast.

Biden will outlast Sanders even in the situation where they both fail because the $ and establishment will keep him on life support longer. And he may still squeak this out.

Not only has there been a 19 point swing between Biden and Harris in the polls, but she has now officially overtaken him in terms of # of black caucus supporters. The D primary is >40% AA voters, and so far they have been staunchly pro-Biden. Recall that they were also Hillary supporters and NOT Obama supporters, until he showed them that he could win. Then they literally came home overnight. This is really dangerous territory for Biden.

Buttigieg has raised a crap ton of $ but he is literally polling at about 0% with AA voters so he's totally dead in the water and even as a VP candidate, he'd only be viable if the top of the ticket has out of this world AA support. They need black women to show up and vote in droves.

A Harris/Buttigieg ticket has layers and layers of appeal.

She can generate the AA enthusiasm that HRC lacked (and would have been the difference) and Pete is young and fresh and terrifyingly talented and can speak religious as fluently as his other 9 languages. Being gay gives him liberal appeal, but the fact that he’s an older person’s idea of what a young person should look, talk, and sound like, will go a long way in winning the White women in the suburbs that gave the Dems their big win in 2018. He’s the fantasy gay son they probably don’t have.

I get that she’s police and he’s a racist for going to Afghanistan, but I guess you can’t win them all.

I don’t want my president or Vice President to speak religious on the regular.

It’s helpful sometimes to explain things in familiar ways.

Do you think he’d actually do anything other than present the ticket as compatible with the religious? Do you see him invoking religion the way Pence or anyother Christofascist Republican?

Obviously not. It’s just a perk, not a feature.

I think Warren could be decent, but from an international point of view I think her foreign policy stances leave a lot to be desired, unfortunately.

It still completely stuns me sometimes just how pathetically moronic this man is, the complete lack of any substance to anything he actually says - and that's not even going into his actions. A true hell world we're living in.

Well, yeah, why would the establishment want an unrepentant social democrat as POTUS? He's not wrong about that.

New Suffolk Iowa poll has Harris and Warren moving up to 2nd and 3rd behind Biden (who slid down) and Bernie collapsing to single digits. Absolutely what I have been feeling about his odds.

Everyone else is DOA.

We’ll see if one of the low polling candidates commits murder-suicide on stage a la Chris Christie to Marco Rubio in the next debate in an attempt to take Bernie or Biden out.

Warren, Kamala, Castro and Mayor Pete are my favorites.q I'll vote and volunteer for whomever wins.

The ER has already closed operations and are not taking trauma patients. I genuinely have no idea where I would have been taken with Hahnemann not being an option.
Glad you were able to be treated in time.

It's laizze-faire, I-just-don-t-care type of capitalism. Disgusting.

So are you for um, nationalizing everything, almost everything? Do they do that in the Nordic countries? I don't think so, or maybe parttially?

The Democrats are absolutely shit at a number of important things at which Republicans, for all their reprehensible immorality, excel.

1. Energizing their base.
2. Playing moderrn political warfare (their failure is sort of analogous to medieval warfare where armies lined up politly on the battlefield and proceeded to run at each other).
3. Choosing one or two key messages, simplifying them and then beating that horse until it's emaciated, dead, and 98 feet underground.

There are some in the younger cohort who are getting it (finally). Unfortunately the olds refuse to move on, and everyone suffers for it.

Hey, let's not totally generalize here. :/

#2 I am 66 and knew by the time Reagan was in office we sometimes had to "go low". A point i often disagreed with (from afar) with First Lady Michelle. When i had access to Word, Photoshop in the early 00's I started making my own flyers and put them up around my neighborhood(s) and NYU area. No curse words but they weren't polite in pointing out things against the Republicans!

#3 After they did that "pick one" issue I've thinking what 2, maaaybe would I pick. So far I've come up with Climate Change, and Justice. I think justice can cover a lot of issues we care about

I was reading the transcript you posted, and was thinking "uh,oh" here come "camps" foe the homeless.

He is unbelievably repugnent, worse almost everyday! I wake up half the days of the week after my sleepiness dream recall has partly gone away and think "is he out of office yet?! ", before anything else. :sigh:

Agree here.
Something's going down. Not sure what yet

Pence had his flight cancelled last minute and has returned to white house. Similar things reported with Putin and EU Security Counsel

Looks like Russian nuclear sub issue

Waaaaa? :ohmy:q

Trump looks really terrible lately. I mean he is absolutely hideous on a good day but he's aged a ton, gained way too much weight, looks even more orange than usual and his hair looks like it's always half detached from his head. I can't imagine him alive in 5 years.

In other news, the betting sites now have Kamala Harris in the top spot and Elizabeth Warren second.
