And please don’t be like Bernie, and tell me it’s because America is so much richer than anyone else, because umm, if we are financially stronger and richer (which we are by the way), it’s because of free market capitalism, not globalist socialism
It's not because of free market capitalism. It's because we stole all of our land a couple centuries ago by massacring natives, and then got rich profiting off the devastation of Europe in the second world war.

Eh, never mind. Too depressed to keep talking about all this shit today.

 to you, Cori. Whatever's going on, I hope things look up for you soon. You know we're here for you :).

As for this summit, here's to sincerely hoping it actually does bring about some legitimate progress and positive outcomes . Most presidents, regardless of how people feel about them one way or the other, can point to and have at least one good thing that happened during their time in office, so... We shall see, I guess.

If I committed oversight on literal depression and not political depression, my apologies.

You know I think you’re the cat’s pajamas Cori, because the ledger says so.

I try to limit my screen time in the evenings anyway, (right now am killing time before a concert) but it's been getting me more down than usual the past few days.

I just saw someone say Trump is the first US president to ever speak highly of a foreign leader who regularly tortures people, which ... lol, no.

So, the North Koreans got legitimization on the world stage and a specific promise to discontinue US/South Korean joint military exercises.

The US got some vague promises about denuclearization with no timeline or details about inspections or compliance.

That doesn't sound like a GREAT DEAL to me, or am I just being too cynical?

INCREDIBLY SAD!

plus it's a rehashed deal, same agreement was signed in the 50s and in 1993 - the 1993 agreement is literally word for word

:crack:

Trump says he’ll punish ‘the people of Canada’ because of Trudeau’s news conference

...

Trump claimed, without any basis, that Trudeau made his comments because he thought Trump could not watch them while flying to Singapore.

“I think that Justin probably didn’t know that Air Force One has about 20 televisions,” he said. “I have a good relationship with Justin Trudeau. I really did. Other than he had a news conference that he had because he assumed I was in an airplane and I wasn’t watching.”

Trump’s criticism of Trudeau stood in stark contrast to his effusive praise of Kim. He called the dictator “very talented,” “very smart” and “a great personality” who “loves his people.”

“We have developed a very special bond,” Trump said of Kim.

This idiot is sending Trudeau's approval ratings through the roof.

A really nice real estate opportunity!

"They have great beaches," President Trump said during a news conference after his meeting with Kim Jong-un. "You see that whenever they're exploding their cannons into the ocean. I said boy look at that view. Wouldn't that make a great condo?"

Why should "legitimization" matter in the least? If we want to work out peace in Korea, it's going to have to work that way. I don't know if you've noticed, but the US has ruined many parts of the world recently with its attempts at regime change.

The only way to incentivize North Korea to bring all of this to an end is to treat them as a legitimate government. It cannot work any other way.

Now, is Trump the person to do this? Of course not. He sent a clear signal early on by sabotaging the Iran Deal that negotiating with the US is a fruitless endeavor for the time being. And his compliments of Kim are laughably silly, though I think pretty much anyone recognizes that he'll do that to anyone who speaks kindly of him.

But kvetching over "legitimizing" North Korea is not going to get us anywhere.
